A Late 2024 Reflection: Empowering Creators on TikTok LIVE As 2024 comes to a close, I want to share how incredible it has been to work with TikTok LIVE as an Operations Manager at Otso Media Working with TikTok LIVE has allowed me to truly understand why this platform stands out as a space that empowers creators and celebrates diversity. In my role within the Live Agency, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with creators from all over the UK. Among them are individuals facing unique challenges—some live with disabilities, others manage long-term illnesses, and some may feel isolated in their daily lives. But on TikTok LIVE, these creators have found a platform where they can be heard, connect with supportive communities, and express themselves creatively. It’s inspiring to see how TikTok LIVE empowers individuals to overcome barriers, build meaningful relationships, and thrive through their creativity. Over the last three months of 2024, we launched two major initiatives: • The Box Live Event, which strengthened community connections, and • The Rewarding Graduation Taster Program, which helped creators amplify their voices and form meaningful bonds on TikTok LIVE. Both events achieved remarkable results, and I’m so proud of the creators we’ve supported and the talented team I’ve worked alongside. It’s been an incredible experience to help creators grow and achieve new milestones. Every breakthrough reminds me why I love what I do. Here’s to more growth and empowerment in 2025

If TikTok disappears, where will this energy go? The ban risks creating a gap in accessible platforms for political expression and information. This isn’t just about one app—it’s about the future of digital participation. How do we ensure the next generation stays informed and engaged?

The recent news about TikTok and CapCut being banned in the U.S. has me thinking about what this means for all of us. TikTok and CapCut aren’t just apps—they’re tools for building community. They give creators a platform, help small businesses grow, and provide spaces where people can truly feel seen and heard. As someone who believes in fostering connection and inclusivity, I can’t help but feel this decision limits more than just access to an app. I hope this decision gets reconsidered. 3 years ago, I launched the US Latinx Creatives 10-week incubator in collaboration with MACRO and UnbeliEVAble Entertainment to 150 creators and $500k of grants to the top ten creator pitches from the group 2 years ago, I created the US #CasaTikTok curriculum, program framework, and strategy for the year-round creator community serving <500 creators then grew the @casatiktok TikTok account to 174k followers 1 year ago, I drafted the North American Diverse Creator Community strategy for #BlackTikTok and #CasaTikTok introducing creator ambassadors, securing the NA creator team's first-ever co-branded event with The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. then again with a six-figure sponsorship through Match Group, and launched our first-ever open application that attracted +1300 creators into our programs scaling onboarding beyond what an individual community manager could handle Now, I oversee all four North American diverse creator communities, our newest #APITikTok (Asian Pacific Islander) and #PrideTikTok (LGBTQIA+) in addition to the relaunch of #BlackTikTok and #CasaTikTok engaging thousands of creators with the help of an external agency! The program has evolved and adapted over the years to develop the next generation of TikTok talent by giving them the educational resources, access to industry events & opportunities, and network to connect dots with fellow creators and TikTok experts to drive growth on platform. My favorite shift from past programs is the emphasis on how to turn one's passion a living and seeing creators as digital entrepreneurs building a business. I have an exciting announcement! I have created a TikTok channel! I am hoping to share a lot of disability-related content there and express myself in a way I might not be able to through writing! I did so with six goals in mind: - Connect with another disability community and begin to share my story, lived experiences, perspective, and insights on another platform. - For professional development in learning new skills such as video editing, concision (a huge one for me), and articulation. - Practise and enhance my public speaking skills. - Branding myself. - Unmasking, unmasking, unmasking. - Learning about disability from a new demographic and community of advocates. I am very nervous and scared to go on this journey but feel it’s needed to become a more versatile and stronger disability advocate. I am afraid of… - How I will be perceived. - Whether I will be accepted and welcomed into the TikTok disability community. - Whether my message will be effective. - Learning new skills. - Transition. There WILL be bumps and hiccups along the way. Mistakes will be made. But I feel it’s the right move if I am to become a stronger disability rights advocate. I NEED to connect with other communities, learn about the experiences of another demographic, and share my own.
