One of the biggest hacks when hosting a large event is to establish a planning committee for it. Give each committee member specific tasks and then come together on a weekly/bi-weekly basis for updates. Sourcing speakers, sponsor outreach, searching for a venue, sourcing day of volunteers, etc. can all be focuses of the committee members to help take some of the burden off of you. To take it one step further, you can sprinkle in some people from companies who may be potential sponsors. Doing this helps them stay involved and allows them to get more out of their sponsorship.

Networking pays off! 👏 It’s not always about how many followers you have, but who is seeing and engaging with you. There are plenty of ways to network: 🤝 Attend a free event ☕ Grab a coffee with someone in your field 💃 Go to a fundraising event Or simply start reaching out to people on LinkedIn—don’t just connect, start a conversation and build your network.

Please don’t message me to advertise paid networking events. You’ll never see me promoting a private “women’s empowerment” convention with a $300 ticket price. You’ll never see me in those spaces. Why? 1. I don’t know you. I have no idea why or how you put this together, and a quick chat isn’t going to make me ask people to give you $300 on trust. 2. Networking and learning opportunities shouldn’t be for the wealthy only. In the world I'm working for, these are civil rights, not privileges. How could I tell others to attend events I can't even afford myself? 3. I don’t think those spaces offer anything meaningful anymore. There are better ways to connect with networks that better reflect the real society. Why would I spend $300 (a whole month’s worth of food for me, and maybe more), just to sit in a room and chat with rich women? What could I get out of that? If I’m asking anyone to give their money to someone this Christmas, it’ll be to families in Palestine, Lebanon, Congo, Sudan, or Afghanistan. You’ll never see me asking people to give their money to the rich. So please save both of us the loss of time.
