JSK Advisory Weekly Insight Is sustainable investing still the future of investing? - European sustainable funds saw inflows about one fourth of those of “conventional funds” in Q1 2024, the third quarter in the past 3 years when conventional funds’ inflows have outperformed sustainable funds’ - The slowdown in sustainable funds’ inflows is driven in part by underperformance of ESG funds vs. generalist indices in the past 2+ years, on the back of challenged valuations for sustainable energy companies – performance matters, and investors are showing their impatience - While investors appear to be adopting a more selective approach to ESG investing, regulatory support and cultural preferences across Europe are expected to mitigate the downward trend in sustainable investing inflows - To meet this demand, a pivot from exclusion of sectors to thematic investing is likely to be part of the answer.
