#QuoteOfTheDay LDCs contribute only about 1,1% of the world's total greenhouse gas emissions, yet they are disproportionately affected by climate change. 💚 🌍 💚 Our unity is the solution Earth Needs! 🗯 "Hello, world! I’m Romaric from Benin, and my advice is that we must urgently become the catalyst for change. Through reforestation, waste reduction, promoting renewable energy, and advocating for transformative policy measures, every individual action holds profound significance. United in responsibility, we can create a sustainable and flourishing world for future generations. My Petition to: The African Group of Negotiators (AGN) at COP29 to call for: Investments in renewable energy solutions that empower local communities and promote energy access for all. Ending all new fossil fuel projects - they are pushing people and our environment to the brink. Ensuring climate finance supports vulnerable communities affected by climate change. Making polluters pay to generate funds for climate action. Diverting from offsetting and false carbon markets and biodiversity credit solutions.

This study highlights the urgent need for African countries to prioritize sustainable development and reduce their carbon emissions to combat climate change. The findings of this study underscore the importance of investing in renewable energy sources and implementing carbon reduction strategies in Africa. It is concerning to see that Africa is now emitting as much carbon as it stores, emphasizing the need for immediate action to mitigate the impact of climate change on the continent. This serves as a wake-up call for African governments and policymakers to take decisive steps towards reducing carbon emissions and protecting the environment for future generations. The publication underscores the interconnectedness of global carbon emissions and the need for collaborative efforts to address climate change on a global scale.

Every living person today has in one way or another experienced the harsh effects of climate change brought about by the abuse and neglect of our environment. It’s likely too, that we all have contributed to the degradation of the environment. So on this #WorldEnvironmentDay, we reiterate that it is our collective responsibility to take actions that will restore the environment and avert a climate crisis. While it is commendable that the energy sector is undertaking measures to promote environmental sustainability, there’s still more that can be done. The sector should amplify efforts to support communities around the world to shun fossil fuels, which are a major contributor to the climate catastrophe. As the world works towards a just transition of low-carbon and environmentally sustainable economies, we at the UEF are playing our part by financing the scaling up of renewable energy projects across Africa. #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels

The current levels of pollution guarantee a human and economic trainwreck for every country, 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙚𝙭𝙘𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣. Sobering stuff coming from the UN this week. Sobering, but unfortunately not surprising. The 2024 Nationally Determined Contributions Synthesis Report showed that current plans would result in an outcome "miles short" of what's needed. The solution is simple: 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 and 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗲𝘀 everywhere. The solution is simple, but not easy – but also not as difficult or as costly as you might think, and can save you money in the short and long term. And with all the expertise and support showcased at All Energy Australia last week, I know for a fact that there's an army of willing hearts and minds out there to support all individuals and organisations that are moved to do their bit. So why wouldn't you? https://lnkd.in/gGP-dX7q

#COP29Reflections:#Addressing the #Injustice of the Just Energy Transition As the world works toward a low-carbon future, it’s time we address the elephant in the room: #climateFinance and the socio-economic consequences of transitioning to clean energy, especially in developing nations like South Africa. In most south africa's communities where livelihoods depend heavily on coal mines and plants, shutting down fossil fuel operations without adequate planning leaves communities vulnerable. While alternative energy sources are essential, there must be a comprehensive approach that considers both the environmental and socio-economic impacts. Climate finance must go beyond funding renewable energy—it should also prioritize the economic and social development of affected communities. Yet, we see an imbalance. Developed countries attract more climate investments, often at the expense of regions that bear the greatest socio-economic risks. This climate inequity hinders a truly fair transition. It’s clear that socio-economic research and substantial capital allocation are needed to ensure that the energy transition doesn’t create further injustice. Climate action should be inclusive and equitable. #ClimateJustice #JustEnergyTransition #ClimateFinance #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #SocioEconomicImpact #ClimateEquity
