Today, I had the honor of meeting the #Ambassador of Israel at the 2nd Ethio-Israel Innovation Week experience sharing session. It was an eye-opening opportunity to hear from a group of inspiring entrepreneurs and influential figures from Israel who shared their remarkable journey. The highlight of the session was the story of how the Israeli government brought together $100 million, distributing it amongst 10 venture capital firms. This bold move revolutionized the country's economic landscape, with the private sector carrying most of the load. 🌍✨ This experience reaffirmed my belief that the Innovative Finance Lab (IFL) is on the right track towards revolutionizing the Ethiopian economic framework and overall structure. Together, we're paving the way for a vibrant and innovative financial ecosystem in Ethiopia! #Innovation #Finance #VentureCapital #EconomicGrowth #Ethiopia #Israel #Investment #Entrepreneurship #InnovationWeek #IFL #EconomicDevelopment #Collaboration #FutureofFinance #FundofFunds #EthiopianCapitalMarketAuthority

Entrepreneurship: The Multi-Faceted Key to Africa's Prosperity 🌍✨ When we talk about entrepreneurship as the engine of sustained economic growth and a solution for poverty alleviation in Africa, it's easy to jump to the conclusion that starting a business is the only path. But entrepreneurship is more than starting a company; it's a mindset—a way of approaching the world. An expression of your life in economic terms. I believe that we have a responsibility to act on that persistent idea that's gnawing at you... to find a problem you're passionate about and solve it—entrepreneurially. This doesn't always mean being a business founder. It could mean raising funds to kickstart a research institute, scaling an NPO to new heights, or being a catalyst for policy change that alters the face of a metropolis. Doing these effectively and sustainably is being entrepreneurial. I watched a video today that reaffirmed this belief for me. It featured a remarkable individual—a Korean-born, French-adopted woman who's been an academic, a public servant, a minister, and now, a venture capitalist backing multiple unicorns. --- Yes, that is in one lifetime. And I feel privileged to have met people in my life who mirror and inspire this kind of path. --- Anyway... her journey is a testament to the power of self-awareness and entrepreneurial spirit in various arenas of life. It's a reminder to us all: keep the conversation with yourself alive, know who you are and what you stand for, and pursue your path with entrepreneurial fire. That's how we'll not only dream of a better future for Africa but make it a reality. SA Innovation Summit is a platform for inspiring those on this journey, fueling business growth and connecting with like-minded people to partner and build with you. The full-scale invasion has presented immense challenges to Ukraine, but it has also sparked new opportunities for social entrepreneurs to create innovative solutions. How can they transform their ideas into successful businesses that generate both profit and lasting social impact? We had the opportunity of interviewing Martin Vogelsang, former director of Bundesinitiative Impact Investing & co-founder of Social Synergy, to gain insights into the world of social entrepreneurship in Ukraine. Here are the main thoughts: 🔵Self-awareness is key. Entrepreneurs must accurately assess their investment readiness & stay true to their mission when seeking funding. 🔵Ukraine's potential. Martin sees great potential in Ukraine's social entrepreneurship ecosystem, particularly in post-war reconstruction. 🔵Impact investing, while a nascent field, is growing globally. Ukrainian entrepreneurs should be patient, leverage international support & maintain their vision. 🙌Martin's insights highlight the importance of balancing mission and profit, and the transformative power of impact investing in creating a more sustainable and equitable future for Ukraine.

I subscribe to a database of VC deals done in Africa. I am in the process of analyzing these for an outfit looking to start a venture investing vehicle. The level of under-representation in the funding of founders in South Africa is astonishing. In the last 4 years fewer than 15% of investees were non-white, and about 10% female. Deflating... If there is a silver lining to this stat, it must be that there is a HUGE opportunity for a 'diversity first' capital allocator to mop up some founder gold! #venturecapital #entrepreneurship

As B&B Global Investment, we recognize the abundant talent present across Africa. Our continent is home to individuals with groundbreaking ideas that can significantly improve people's lives. In today's fast-paced world, it's crucial to establish sustainable ecosystems that support and nurture the innovative spirit of our vibrant, tech-savvy younger generation. Unfortunately, many of these ambitious innovators face barriers such as lack of access to resources, knowledge, and support, preventing them from bringing their visions to life. By providing assistance to these budding entrepreneurs, equipping them with the tools to grow their skills, and helping them refine and test their prototypes, we can expect to see a substantial and ongoing surge in the development of sustainable businesses throughout Africa. I express my deep appreciation for the commendable work being carried out by Tony O. Elumelu, C.F.R through his foundation, The Tony Elumelu Foundation. I eagerly anticipate collaborating with various stakeholders to explore and unlock the vast potential that Africa embodies and to emphasize the importance of creating solutions specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of the African people. #Entrepreneurship #StartupSupport #InnovationEcosystem
