But what if there was a solution, that made medical research more efficient, safer, faster and inexpensive, while also solving the ethical question about animal testing? 🤔 With their Organ-on-a-Chip device, the Cologne-based startup, VitrofluidiX, developed a technology, that sets a new standard in the field of medical research. #DidYouKnow 2024 saw one of the largest emergence of #PeriodicalCicadas in years, with both the #BroodXIII on their 17-year cycle and #BroodXIX on their 13-year cycle overlapping, in what became know throughout parts of nearly 20 Midwestern states as #TheSummerOfTheCicada. With so many #Cicadas emerging at once and almost immediately beginning their search for a mate, the "buzz" Cicadas are most well known for reached more than 100 decibels in some regions this summer (that is almost as loud as a lawnmower and just shy of some engines on fire trucks). Fitting, then that 2024 would also find #TeamCicada going through its own "Summer of the #Cicada", with the 20th anniversary of Cicada Graphics & Communications and the newly relaunched branding of the organization as Cicada Marketing. VERY pleased to announce that I’ve been awarded a place on the prestigious Innovate UK ICURe Explore Programme. The ICURe Explore programme, delivered in partnership with BBSRC, National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs), Innovate UK, and The Helix Way. It is an incredible opportunity to ‘get out of the lab’ and validate the technology I've been developing in the market. Over the next 4 months, I’ll be diving into: ✅ Testing the commercial potential of our tools and technologies for monitoring animal physiology, with a focus on advancing the #3Rs – the replacement, reduction, and refinement of animals in research. ✅ Engaging directly with potential customers, industry partners, and investors to understand the real-world impact of our #bioelectronics solutions. ✅ Accessing world-class training, mentoring, and funding (up to £35k) to explore pathways to bring our innovations to market. This marks an exciting step forward for the MouseAble project and our mission to develop advanced bioelectronics that improve both research outcomes and animal welfare. A huge thank you to BBSRC, NC3Rs, Innovate UK ICURe, and Helix Way for this opportunity. I’m looking forward to the next 12 weeks of discovery, learning, and growth.
