Obtain the grace to have integrity in business Last week I attended a workshop on Events Planning and Management by the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) at Best Western Hotel in Kisumu. We had a guest speaker, Archie, the director of Sound Box events company, who has been in the industry for over two decades. Archie`s growth story was so intriguing. Although he didn't mention it, the concept of integrity kept popping up in his narration. Having come from Nairobi to Kisumu for an event, 13 years ago, Archie provided Kisumu Golf Club with the best event sound the club has ever received. Being familiar with his business, he knew what type of sound would be ideal for a certain size of crowd. He focused more on giving the best service rather than trying to increase his profit margin by offering substandard services as some businesses do. That one event opened endless doors for Archie: 🚨 The golf club requested him to host all of their calendar events, which were scheduled for almost every fortnight. 🚨 The golf club members gave him businesses, to host any of their personal family events like weddings, family reunions, and house-warming parties among others. 🚨He also got numerous referrals from these club members, to clients from both within and outside Kisumu. Archie decided to settle in Kisumu due to the endless demand for his services. Here are my key takeaways from Archie`s story: 👉 Cutting corners or deceiving customers might bring short-term gains but often result in long-term losses. 👉Customer satisfaction is key in business. Customers tend to stay loyal to companies they trust. They are more likely to return and recommend the business to others. 👉 Integrity contributes to the long-term sustainability of a business. Companies that prioritize ethics and honesty are more resilient, even in times of market competition. Ultimately, integrity forms the foundation of a sustainable and successful business. As you invest in knowledge to grow your business, obtain the grace to have integrity. Have a successful week ahead. We had a great early morning meeting today for BNI (Business Network International) Big Breakfast held at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Hotel from 7a - 9a today. Traditions Give a Sense of Belonging - But Not All of Them Last week I was in Sri Lanka catching up with some clients and some family. One of the events I was at started with some traditional Sri Lankan dancers honouring their cultural roots. It was a fabulous sight to see. It got me thinking about the importance of Traditions in the workplace and at #Events. Some traditions are corporate. For example, "We always have a welcome dinner on the beach and the boss gives us the state of the nation." Some are cultural, for example, "We always have a Welcome to Country at the start of the event and then an acknowledgement of country at the start of each other day." And some... well some are tired and no longer serve us. For example, "Bazza from sales always makes a mess of himself at the gala dinner" or "the supplier award always goes to someone outside of our association." So are your traditions working for you? If not, it is time to change them. If so, it is time to strengthen them - make sure everyone knows why we do it and why they are important. Traditions are a great anchor point that can give your team and your delegates a sense of belonging. If they are not doing this, feel free to change them!
