Finally, I have some time to catch up on this. It is not just a piece of news, but a closure to a part of my memories - I started my #engineering career as an #intern in #Shell #Singapore 20 years ago! As a university student, that 6 months internship in Shell lit up my aspiration in the Engineering world, particularly in the #OilandGas industry. I am blessed to be put on an accelerated path in that 6 months. From the 1st week of performing simple tasks like balancing a reciprocating pump and scheduling Maintenance Team, I was made a Project Leader eventually to oversee a major equipment overhaul project. Catalyst Stripper & Regen Furnace - that is a beast! A confined space towering at 4 storeys tall, 50 meters long, firing all year long over hundreds of Degree Celcius. We had to shut down the entire plant for 14 days just for this darling. I burnt many nights reading boxes of Equipment Data, Instruction Manuals and P&ID. But more than Engineering aspect, leading that project let me gain many practical wisdom in #leadership and #management. How did a student-intern lead a team of M&E Technicians and Technologists with a combined experience of >150 years, and 2 teams of 40-man external Contractors? I don't know how I did it, but we completed the project 1 day early! 😉 As a young man, I was deeply impacted by the strong and consistent #corporateculture of Shell especially in Corporate Governance, People (integrity, respect), Trust, Teamwork and Professionalism. I believe it has shaped my DNA early for my roles in Emerson and Bosch, both as corporate citizen and as corporate leader. Thank you, Shell, especially the Catalytic Subsidiary I was in. You have made a difference in a young mind, and have prepared him well to contribute significantly in the #OilandGas, #automotive and #ICT #Tech industries subsequently. Aggregate that as a nation, more than cemented Singapore as the "Houston of Asia", you have helped this nation trained up many local #industrial #talent who are now elevating this nation to the world stage across various industries. Thank you, Shell, those 180 days were truly fond memories! 😎

As a former Controller, I'm always happy to share videos like the below. We’re excited to welcome six new cadets to Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers (WesCEF) as part of our first-ever Process Technician Cadetship Program! 🎉 This program, developed with South Metropolitan TAFE, prepares students for careers in process plant operations while promoting diversity. Of the 10 graduates, nine were women, including one Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander person. Now, six cadets have joined us for an 18-month cadetship at our Kwinana operations. The program is part of our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging strategy and reflects our commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace at WesCEF. How was your experience with switching careers? Transitioning from a background in petroleum engineering to the coal mining industry has been a compelling challenge for me. Initially, I found myself at the lowest rank, standing 56th out of 56 employees during the training program. It felt like starting from scratch, as I adapted to the fast-paced environment of mining, where productivity is measured down to the second. Six months into the training program, I was assigned to the Engineering Department at PT Antang Gunung Meratus Site. Within four months of this placement, I successfully developed a project improvement initiative: the MATCH (Measurable Actual Cycle Time Hasnur) application. This tool calculates the cycle time of haulers and loaders, optimizing production efficiency and enabling quicker, more responsive corrective actions. I selected “MATCH” as the application name to incorporate the letter “M” as a nod to my name, Maulana, and to highlight its focus on Measurable productivity. This project allowed me to become the fastest graduate in FGDP Batch IV, and it earned me two prestigious awards: 1. 2nd place in the Quality Control Circle Innovation at PT Antang Gunung Meratus site. 2. 1st place in the Quality Control Circle Innovation Corporate Convention at PT Hasnur Riung Sinergi. This experience has been instrumental in my journey within the mining sector, driving me to further pursue innovations that enhance productivity and efficiency. Switching careers, especially right after graduation, can be daunting, but it's also incredibly rewarding if approached with resilience and a learning mindset. My experience taught me the importance of being adaptable and willing to start from the basics, even if it means being at the bottom of the ranks initially. Embrace every learning opportunity, no matter how small, and don't be afraid to create improvements—even if they start as simple ideas. Building skills takes time, but with persistence and a focus on adding measurable value, you’ll eventually make an impact and stand out in your new field. Relished my second coffee session with Aiman, my Linkerdin Connection on 5 May at Shah Alam. He holds a Bachelor's of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, Minor in Materials Science of Vanderbilt University, America. He was a Scholar of ExxonMobil. He attended Victoria Institution. Currently, he's a Petroleum Engineer ( Surveillance) with Petrofac. Previously, he worked with ExxonMobil. Total working experiences = 10 years.  We deliberated the following topics : (1) Career path and career progressions in Oil & Gas Big Corporations.  (2) Prioritization between career and family.  (3) Challenges, survival in Oil & Gas Big Corporations.  (4) Criterias for job hopping.  (5) Starting salaries, ceiling salaries and average salaries in Oil & Gas Big Corporations.  (6) Networking skills amongst Professionals.  (7) Crutial decision making.  (8) High performers 20 % versus average performers 70 % and under performers 10 % the bottom.  (9) Risks Management in career and marriage. Reflecting on my journey in HR and Learning and Development, I remember the early days when I realized the importance of identifying and honing specific skills to excel in my role and make a meaningful impact. Public speaking, presentation skills, and enhancing my English proficiency were among the areas I identified for improvement. I created a checklist and diligently worked on each skill, ticking off boxes as I progressed. Investing time and effort in developing these weaker areas has not only enhanced my performance but also increased my efficiency, requiring less supervision. This growth has opened doors to supervisory roles, allowing me to mentor and empower others in their professional development journey. The journey from self-improvement to leading and coaching has been a rewarding one, and the results speak for themselves. I've learned that loving what you do and taking ownership of your growth are key components of success. By continuously striving to enhance skills and capabilities, we not only elevate our own performance but also create opportunities to inspire and guide others towards their own achievements. #PetronasCarigali is advancing plans to appraise its 2023 Singsing 🎤🎶 discovery offshore #Sarawak, East Malaysia. Singsing 🎤🎶, which is located on Block SK 313 in the Western Luconia province in the Sarawak basin, was one of 19 exploration discoveries and two exploration-appraisal successes that last year contributed more than 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent combined of new resources for Malaysia. Petronas Carigali is scheduled to imminently commence a marine geohazards survey offshore Sarawak that will encompass the site of the intended Singsing-2 🎤🎶🎤 well together with locations of proposed wildcat wells and platform drilling. Other drilling targets to be surveyed include Manjakani-1, Silungen-1 (otherwise known as Gayong-1), Cemumar-1 (other wise known as Kumang East), Baronia North and D18 KP-A.
