"I've logged a job with facilities". 🙄 That was literally what a receptionist said to me when I asked why there were leaves in the front entrance. 🍂 🍂 🍂 Here's the thing: in the autumn, leaves will blow in through your front doors and make a mess of your reception space. By the time a job has been raised, a person assigned, and then directed to the location, if it's a windy day there will be even more leaves. This is just how it is. 🤷♀️ My reaction? I went straight out and bought the smartest looking dustpan and brush I could find and delivered it to the reception team. 💡 Why? 👀 👀 👀 If I see it, so does your guest/client/customer. And leaves in the reception makes you look like you don't care. Or you don't pay attention to the details. And details. Matter. To. Your. Customers. Yes, we all have our specific jobs we need to do, and that we are paid for, but my attitude has always been that we are all working with one goal in mind: providing the best experience for our guests imaginable. So to meet that goal, we need to drop the bureaucracy. Collaborate. Help each other out. And smile while we're doing it. ***************************** How is your guest experience? Need a fresh pair of eyes? As part of our approach at BrandSensory we provide audits, guest experience reviews and team immersions to ensure everyone is working towards the same goal. ***************************** #guestexperience #brandbuilding #brandexperience #clientjourney #culture

The reception desk is more than just a physical space—it’s the heart of first impressions. For many visitors, it’s their first interaction with a business, setting the tone for the experience that follows. 💡 The Role of a Receptionist A receptionist isn’t just someone who answers phones or directs traffic. They are: The face of the company: Greeting visitors with warmth and professionalism. Problem-solvers: Managing inquiries and ensuring everyone feels heard. Multitasking masters: Balancing calls, appointments, and administrative tasks seamlessly. 🎯 What Makes a Reception Desk Exceptional? Empathy & Warmth: A genuine smile can ease even the most nervous visitor. Efficiency & Organization: Quickly addressing needs shows respect for others' time. Knowledge & Confidence: Being well-informed about the company builds trust. ✨ Real-Life Impact I recall visiting a company where the receptionist noticed I was early for my meeting and suggested I try their café while I waited. Not only was it thoughtful, but it also made me feel welcomed and valued. That simple gesture stuck with me and shaped my perception of the company as a whole. The reception desk is where first impressions are made and relationships begin. Let’s celebrate the incredible professionals who ensure it’s a place of connection, trust, and care every single day. What’s the best experience you’ve had at a reception desk? I’d love to hear your stories! #CustomerService #Receptionist #FirstImpressions

CANDIDATE SHORTAGE CRISIS So much of this across all forums and talks, we are facing a huge crisis with a shortage of candidates for roles, well, looking at my inbox, there are tons of people looking for work, so what are the issues you may ask ? To name a few, the issues are : * Applicants applying for jobs they are not QUALIFIED to do * Zero or insufficient EXPERIENCE in the actual position * Applicants are NOT reading the job advert before sending a CV across * People desperate for work applying for all 25 jobs you have advertised despite not meeting a single requirement on any of the roles Examples being: * A junior applying for a Senior Director role * A CDP applying for Exec Chef position * A receptionist/reservation's agent applying for Front Office DIRECTOR level role * Foreign nationals applying for positions that do NOT offer work sponsorship and therefore have no eligibility to work or live in the country * A graduate position with applicants who have 8 years experience and want 3 times the salary on offer * Not residing in the same geographical location * Not being fluent in essential languages requirements Applicants that do NOT meet the ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS ! This is why recruiters are turning to AI to help sift through applicants, the sheer number of unsuitable cvs is mind blowing. The crisis is about QUALITY not QUANTITY How do we maintain a personalised approach to shortlisting with the current situation ?
