🌸 Cut flowers put you in a good mood! However, they are not only a popular gift, but also an important export commodity for many countries. Dr. Andreas Gemählich is the responsible expert for the sector at IPD - 🔥 with a good spirit, of course! He is enthusiastic about the variety of products from the IPD partner countries 🇪🇨 Ecuador, 🇨🇴 Colombia, 🇰🇪 Kenya, 🇿🇦 South Africa New farms are constantly being identified on sourcing missions to expand the range of cut flowers. 🌶 🌟 The Journey of Penja Peppers’ (Poivre de Penja) Geographical Indication Status 🌶 🌟 Poivre de Penja, commonly known as Penja Pepper, is a prized tropical pepper cultivated on the volcanic slopes of Mount Kupa in Penja, Cameroon. Harvested by hand using traditional methods, this pepper is renowned for its unique woody, amber, and musky aroma, and its notable heat, which comes from a minimum piperine content of 10.48%. The pepper's exceptional quality has made it highly sought after by Michelin-starred chefs and upscale restaurants worldwide. To protect the rights of local producers and prevent the misuse of the name, the Poivre de Penja Producers Association secured Geographical Indication (GI) status from the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) in 2013. This protection, covering 17 West African nations, was further extended when the European Commission recognized Poivre de Penja as a protected GI in the EU on March 17, 2022. In April 2024, a symposium in Douala, Cameroon, highlighted the economic and cultural significance of GIs like Penja pepper. These local products have gained increased market value and international recognition since obtaining GI status. The symposium emphasized the importance of GIs in protecting local heritage and boosting economic growth by promoting unique African products on a global stage. #bergenthuin #IntellectualProperty #GeographicalIndication #PenjaPepper #AfricanAgriculture #CulturalHeritage #SustainableFarming #Cameroon #IPProtection #GlobalRecognition #MichelinStar #GourmetCuisine #EconomicGrowth #OAPI #EURecognition #AfricanProducts

Australia Leads World Wine Trade Group 🍷 Australia has taken the helm as Chair of the World Wine Trade Group (WWTG) as of 1 June 2024. The WWTG, a coalition of government and industry representatives, aims to simplify international wine trade by sharing information, coordinating regulatory discussions, and jointly removing trade barriers. This leadership role allows Australia to drive the group's trade priorities and showcase the unique aspects of Australian wine. 🌍 Deputy Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Policy, Matt Lowe, emphasised the importance of this chairmanship in advancing the WWTG's goals and enhancing trade opportunities. Lowe highlighted that the WWTG's efforts have significantly eased the international trade process for Australian wine exporters by reducing regulatory inconsistencies. This initiative benefits Australian wine producers by providing smoother market access to other WWTG countries. 🤝 Chairing duties will be shared between the government and Australian Grape & Wine, reflecting a robust partnership that includes Wine Australia and the Australian Wine Research Institute. Australia will host the WWTG Annual Meeting in Adelaide in October, welcoming international delegations from member countries such as Argentina, Canada, and the United States. This collaboration is expected to boost trade opportunities and address the domestic wine oversupply challenge. #WorldWineTradeGroup #AustralianWine #WineIndustry #TradeLeadership #WWTG #WineTrade #AustraliaTrade

📢 Celebrating the protection of more than 3,600 unique products through quality schemes in the European Union, including Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). In countries where laws on geographical protection apply, only products that meet the various geographical and quality criteria can use the protected indication, these products must be registered.🍈🍅 🍇🍷Did you know? Three wines from Malta have been awarded the DOK (Denominazzjoni ta’ Oriġini Kontrollata) in english is Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and IĠT (Indikazzjoni Ġeografika Tipika) in english is Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) designation. 🚀 These are the geographical indications from Malta registered in the EU: ✔️Malta or "from Malta" is a DOK (PDO) wine from the island of Malta, which is produced and packaged there with a maximum yield of 84-91 hectolitres/hectare. ✔️ Gozo or "from Gozo" (Maltese: Għawdex or "Ta' Għawdex") is a DOK (PDO) wine from the island of Gozo, with very similar requirements to those of "Malta". ✔️ Maltese Islands or "from the Maltese Islands" is an IĠT (PGI) wine from any of the islands for which higher yields than DOK wines of 120-125 hectolitres/hectare are permitted. #Malta #Wine #PDO #PGI #DOK #FoodEU #Protection #Qualityfood #Geography ▶️https://lnkd.in/d6z2yWFy ▶️https://lnkd.in/ekwkiPD8 ✔️Follow Us Maltese-Spanish Chamber of Commerce
