Today is Veteran's Day and we are so lucky to have so many amazing veterans working in our industry. We thank you for your service to our country and the incredible things you continue to do within manufacturing. In fact, at #IMTS2024, Rear Admiral Todd S. Weeks, Program Executive Officer of Program Executive Office, Strategic Submarines (PEO SSBN) discussed how America’s Submarine Industrial base will need to hire 100,000 skilled employees to meet the Navy’s growing demand for submarine construction through 2040. You can watch the full presentation here! And again, thank you for your service to all our veterans!

The U.S. Navy awarded Northrop Grumman a $3.5 Billion Contract to develop the E-130J, a modified Lockheed Martin C-130J Aircraft, to replace the aging E-6B Mercury in the Take Charge and Move Out (TACAMO) Mission. Northrop has invested over $1 Billion in Digital Engineering for the Program. The E-130J will ensure continued control of Strategic Forces as the E-6B Fleet, which is nearly 35 Years old, nears Retirement. The first E-130J began Construction in November 2023, and the Navy aims for a Low-Cost, C-130J-Based Replacement for the aging Fleet.

What do GE Aerospace, Lockheed Martin, Piper Aircraft, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, and MRAS (owned by ST Engineering) have in common? They rely on their custom-designed Titan Abrasive blast rooms and blast cabinets. Using abrasive blasting, a wide range of aircraft parts can be rendered virtually new. Blasting removes dirt, grime and oils, as well as creating a profile on part surfaces for refinishing – whether paint, powder coating, or polyurethane. For commercial aircraft, abrasive blasting is used to clean and prep engine components for refurbishment or a complete overhaul. #abrasiveblasting #aerospace #aeronautics

The U.S. Navy’s supply corps will spend the next two years applying lessons from the service’s aircraft fleet to surface ship readiness. CRG's x3 high-level suggested areas of focus needing to be addressed for success: 1. Integration of Maintenance Operations Center: Establishing a centralized hub, akin to the Aviation Maintenance Operations Center, to coordinate supply officers, maintainers, and community leadership for efficient problem-solving and resource allocation. 2. Supply Chain Integration: Streamlining the supply chain by designating Naval Supply Systems Command as the supply chain integrator, ensuring accurate assumptions about spare parts, and maintaining effective feedback loops with engineers and industry partners. 3. Real-time Tracking & Analysis: Implementing robust tracking systems to monitor mission capable rates in real-time, identify areas of concern, analyze causes of delays, and develop preventive measures to maintain high readiness levels for submarines and surface ships. For clients: CRG offers comprehensive support in capture, business development, proposal, strategy, and wins. With a proven track record in defense industry expertise, CRG ensures clients achieve their mission goals efficiently and effectively. A friendly reminder of the upcoming INCOSE Model-Based Acquisition webinar this Wed, 7/31, from 11-12 ET. Details and registration information below. I hope you can join us! There are many challenges to delivering the next generation of Defense systems. The complexity of systems and the constant evolution of threats requires greater agility than ever before. Budgetary constraints drive the need for predictable delivery and informed decision making, maximizing capability and availability within an affordability envelope. The increasing complexity of the environment will therefore mandate interoperability with other Defense systems and collaboration throughout the supply chain. For many Defense organizations, adopting a Model-Based approach across the acquisition lifecycle has been vital to program success and part of a dramatic transformation in terms of thinking, culture, and ways of working. In this webinar, we’ll show how a Model-Based Acquisition approach enables a step change in capability while assuring value for money and schedule predictability. Andrew Bonica

👉 Why is the Navy celebrating USS George Washington's underway? ⚓ Because it was a positive end to a long and painful journey - not unlike President George Washington's years-long efforts when he was Commander of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Getting this warship ready to sail around South America on its way to Japan for the second time was a #memorable achievement for the Navy. Mid-life overhauls have historically taken 4 years. This one was closer to 6 years due to a less experienced trades workforce (a result of delayed Congressional funding), COVID-19, a diminished supply parts industry, and growing pains associated with combat system installations completed by organizations outside the shipyard for the first time. The additional 2 years created an #exponential number of #challenges for the ship's crew. Sailors who sailed the USS George Washington before the overhaul had transferred long before the current crew arrived at the ship. For years, the Sailors had only worked in maintenance roles. There was no turnover or continuity of team culture to start operations up again after the many years it took to refuel the nuclear reactors and overhaul each of the 2,700 spaces on the ship. Extended maintenance in a shipyard is not in our Sailor's DNA. Stress levels for Sailors in long-term maintenance remain high - even higher than in combat. The ship suffered immeasurable losses of several Sailors to suicide, including a cluster of 3 within 6 days in 2022. External investigations revealed shipyard conditions were not up to Navy standards and were likely a factor in one of the suicides in particular. One is too many and Navy leaders realized they need to improve the quality of life in the shipyard. Slowly, the Navy provided better living conditions (Sailors no longer live on ships in extended maintenance), additional quality food options, more accessible medical care, WiFi in the shipyard, better cell phone reception, and more robust mental health support. 🙌 👉 The #success of the USS George Washington's underway is not measured by how long it took to be overhauled, or the tragedies along the way, but how the Navy responded to acute hardship and adversity. I served near the USS George Washington since 2020 and saw firsthand the extensive technical, teamwork, and emotional challenges they encountered. I am very proud of many leaders on that ship, including Captains Brent Gaut and Timothy Waits, who made an #absolutely #dedicated 110% effort to take care of the Sailors and get the ship back out to sea in defense of our nation. The USS George Washington regained their proficiency at sea, earned remarkable scores on recent inspections, and now are well on their way to serving our nation proudly. Great job GW!! 👍 #perseverance #gonavy https://lnkd.in/emY-xPxk
