Day 3 - 13th November 2024 🛠 Deploying Community Networks🌍 In our Deploying Community Networks course, we’re exploring essential concepts in Network Design and Community Readiness that lay the groundwork for effective, community-driven connectivity. 🌐 Lesson 1: Network Types & Topologies Understanding network types sets the stage for designing functional and efficient networks:- 1️⃣ 🖧 - LAN (Local Area Network) – For small areas like offices or schools, often using Wi-Fi or Ethernet. 2️⃣ 🏙️ - MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) – Extends across cities, linking multiple LANs. 3️⃣ 🌍 - WAN (Wide Area Network) – Connects over large distances, with the Internet being the biggest WAN. We also covered Network Topologies – the structure of device connections:- 1️⃣ 🚌Bus – Simple, ideal for smaller networks. 2️⃣ 🌟Star – Connects devices centrally, easy to manage. 3️⃣🔄Ring – Circular connection, orderly but sensitive to disruptions. 4️⃣🕸Mesh – Highly resilient, ideal for WANs needing redundancy. 👥 Lesson 2: Community Readiness Beyond technology, community engagement is crucial for network sustainability. 1️⃣⚖ - Understanding Needs & Resources – Tailoring networks to meet local needs based on available resources. 2️⃣🤝 - Engaging Leaders – Local leaders build trust and mobilise support, crucial for community-driven success. 3️⃣💡 Addressing Challenges – Participants explored solutions to barriers like funding and skills, using real community examples.
