𝙱𝚘𝚝𝚜𝚠𝚊𝚗𝚊'𝚜 𝙱𝚘𝚝𝚂𝚊𝚝-𝟷 𝚂𝚊𝚝𝚎𝚕𝚕𝚒𝚝𝚎 𝚁𝚎𝚊𝚌𝚑𝚎𝚜 𝙲𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚌𝚊𝚕 𝙼𝚒𝚕𝚎𝚜𝚝𝚘𝚗𝚎 Botswana's first satellite, BotSat-1, has successfully completed its Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) phase, marking a weighty advancement in the country's space ambitions. This achievement brings Botswana closer to joining the growing list of African nations with satellite technology capabilities. The satellite is being developed through a collaboration between the Botswana International University of Science & Technology (BIUST) engineering team and Bulgarian satellite manufacturer EnduroSat. BIUST engineers traveled to EnduroSat's space center to oversee this crucial stage, which involved comprehensive testing and final inspections to ensure compliance with all technical and operational standards. BotSat-1 is scheduled for launch in early 2025, representing a landmark achievement in Botswana's space development efforts. The successful completion of the AIT phase demonstrates that the satellite project is on track, bringing it closer to deployment where it will play a vital role in enhancing the country's technological capabilities. As BotSat-1 moves closer to its launch date, it stands as a testament to Botswana's commitment to technological advancement and its potential impact on various sectors within the country. #BotswanaSatellite #SpaceTechnology #AfricanInnovation #BotSat1 #TechDevelopment

🌊 Excited to share my journey and insights from a 2-month internship at CSIR – National Institute of Oceanography,Goa! I analyzed “long-term swell patterns and extreme weather induced swell propagation in the Southern and North Indian Oceans”. By leveraging datasets from satellite observations ERA-5, WAVERYS and other oceanographic sources, I studied critical parameters like significant wave heights, swell periods, and extreme cyclone events. Key Findings: -Identified long-term trends in swell characteristics over the Southern Ocean and NIO for over 80years. -Examined the impact of extreme cyclonic activities on wave dynamics and swell propagation toward the Indian coast. -Highlighted significant changes in swell patterns due to extreme weather events, contributing to a better understanding of their long-term impact. This internship not only sharpened my skills in GIS, remote sensing, and data analysis but also deepened my understanding of the ocean's dynamic processes and their implications for coastal regions. Grateful to ‘Dr. Samiksha S. Volvaiker’ and ‘CSIR-NIO’ for their mentorship and guidance throughout this exciting project. Looking forward to applying these learnings in future geoinformatics projects and contributing to sustainable ocean and coastal management. #GIS #RemoteSensing #Oceanography #Geoinformatics #CSIRNIO #DataAnalysis #InternshipExperience CSIR - National Institute of Oceanography CSIR India

Did You Know? 🤔 The National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) of the Philippines recently released an official update on the number of islands in the country, revealing a substantial increase from the long-accepted figure of 7,107 to an astonishing 7,641 islands, clustered into three major island groups: Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao. This increase is attributed to the advent of advanced technological methods, particularly Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (IFSAR), which allowed for more precise mapping and discovery of previously undocumented landforms. The vast archipelago of the Philippines, known for its diverse and dynamic geography, harbored these islands for many years, eluding detection due to earlier technological limitations and the ever-changing nature of its landscapes.
