US Surgeon General advisory for the mental health of parents and September's Suicide Awareness month. I know the title is A LOT. I'm feeling it all. I'm not suicidal. However, my daughter and I are bereaved by the suicide of her father. He died 8 years ago. It never gets easier. In truth, it feels harder every year. Hardest when we arrive at his death anniversary. I had a panic attack this weekend - the first time in years. I don't even remember my last one. All that my employer will do is give me the phone number to EAP. I can't cover the past 8 years of my life in 3 sessions. I did try a new therapist last year but I had to fire her when she screamed at me "YOU KNOW HE'S NEVER COMING BACK." Yes, I am very stressed out. My child has a therapist and we both have our own psychiatrists. Let this be a reminder to what some of your colleagues or "reports" are undergoing right now. We take our mental health with us to work. My suggestion on how to help your employees - give them time. Even if you don't have the authority to give them time off you can arrange workloads. Ask your employee what would be the best for them? https://lnkd.in/gffySen3 https://lnkd.in/gMQVutKf #September #Suicide #Suicideawareness #Parentalmentalhealth #Parentalwellbeing #workplacehealth #mentalhealth #wellness

Every November, we celebrate National Family Caregivers Month (NFCM) to acknowledge and appreciate family caregivers throughout the nation. This month provides a chance to shed light on caregiving challenges, educate the public, and boost support for those who provide care. Today, we want to focus on the issue of caregiver burnout. This condition occurs when caregivers become physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted while looking after others. Those under stress may encounter tiredness, anxiety, and depression. To lower the risk of burnout, you can engage in respite care, join support groups, or consult with a mental health expert. If you know a caregiver in need of help finding coping strategies, we are available around the clock. Our dedicated mental health programs can aid them in acquiring new skills to manage the emotional demands of family caregiving.

Prioritizing Maternal Mental Health: A Call to Action As a public health technician dedicated to enhancing the well-being of mothers and their families, I am deeply passionate about raising awareness for maternal mental health. The transition to motherhood is a profound experience, but it also comes with its unique set of challenges. From hormonal changes to sleep deprivation, new mothers often face mental health issues such as postpartum depression and anxiety. We must recognize the importance of supporting maternal mental health and breaking the stigma surrounding it. I believe that by advocating for resources, destigmatizing conversations around mental health, and promoting self-care practices, we can make a significant impact on the lives of mothers and their children. Let's work together to ensure every mother receives the support and care she deserves. #MaternalMentalHealth #PublicHealth #SupportMothers #BreakTheStigma

World Mental Health Day: Focusing on Mental Health in Older Adults Today, on October 10th, we observe World Mental Health Day, a vital opportunity to highlight mental health issues across the globe. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 15% of adults aged 60 and over experience a mental disorder, such as depression or anxiety. Despite this, mental health in older populations is frequently under-recognized and inadequately addressed. Social isolation, loss of independence, and chronic health conditions have been exacerbated by recent global events, impacting the well-being of many seniors. On this important day, we emphasize the need to: Improve access to mental health services for older adults. Reduce stigma associated with mental health issues in the aging population. Promote early detection and intervention to enhance quality of life. Let's work together to ensure that mental health care is inclusive of all ages. By supporting our older community members, we contribute to a healthier, more compassionate society. Source: https://lnkd.in/eXuBntz

Investing in the mental health of new parents is one of the most valuable resources we can offer for future generations. By prioritising perinatal mental health, we create a foundation for healthier families, improved child development and stronger communities. Supporting parents during this critical period can prevent long term mental health issues, reduce the risk of depression and anxiety and foster more resilient families. During Perinatal Mental Health Week, it is vital to recognise that caring for new parents is not just about individual wellbeing, it’s an investment in the future, one that can break cycles of stress and mental health struggles, ensuring that both parents and infants have the opportunity to thrive.

Mental health in seniors is an important but often overlooked aspect of healthcare. As people age, they may face various challenges that can affect their mental well-being. Common issues include loneliness, grief from the loss of loved ones, chronic health conditions, cognitive decline, and changes in independence and mobility. Social isolation can be particularly detrimental to seniors' mental health. Retirement, loss of friends and family, and physical limitations can lead to feelings of loneliness and depression. It's essential for seniors to stay socially connected through activities, community involvement, and maintaining relationships with friends and family. Promoting mental well-being in seniors involves a holistic approach that includes social support, physical activity, cognitive stimulation, and access to mental health services. It's essential to address mental health concerns in seniors with empathy, understanding, and appropriate support to help them maintain a good quality of life as they age. #helmseniorcare #mentalhealthawareness #MentalHealthMonth #caregiversupport #aginggracefully #caremanagement iCarenetwork
