Interestingly, #Apple’s smartphone sales in #China have experienced a significant decline, with a 17% drop in shipments in 2024—the largest since 2016. This downturn has resulted in Apple losing its top position in the Chinese market, now ranking third with a 15% market share, behind #Vivo and Huawei, which hold 17% and 16% respectively. During my recent business trip to #Shanghai, I stepped into a #Huaweistore—and I was left in absolute awe. Their mobile and laptop models are nothing short of extraordinary. The cutting-edge technology, the sheer variety, and the stunning styling of these devices are on a whole different level. It’s not just innovation; it’s a masterclass in redefining what’s possible. Truly unmatched. I guess several factors contribute to this shift: 1) Huawei’s resurgence, marked by the introduction of advanced #AI features and premium models like the Mate 60 Pro, has attracted consumers seeking cutting-edge technology. 2) Apple faces hurdles in integrating certain AI functionalities due to local regulations, impacting its appeal to tech-savvy Chinese consumers. 3) China’s “consumption downgrade trend” has led consumers to prefer more affordable alternatives, posing challenges for Apple’s premium pricing strategy. Some of my Reflections: - Can Apple tailor its product offerings to align with Chinese consumers’ increasing demand for AI capabilities and affordability? - Could collaborations with local tech firms help Apple navigate regulatory landscapes and enhance its product ecosystem in China? - Is there a need for Apple to introduce more competitively priced models to regain market share in price-sensitive markets like China? #ceosgurukul #firsttimeceos https://lnkd.in/dgZ23dxH

#Indonesia Halts #GooglePixel Sales Following #iPhone16 Ban. #Indonesia has banned #GooglePixel sales for failing to meet its stringent local content requirements, just days after blocking #Apple’siPhone16 for similar reasons. The #IndonesianMinistry of Industry stated that #Google’s smartphones cannot be sold until they comply with the rule mandating 40% domestic content in devices. Febri Hendri Antoni Arief, spokesperson for the ministry, explained that the rule promotes fairness for investors while also building a stronger industry within #Indonesia. To resume sales, #Google must secure certification showing it meets the local content standard. This content requirement aligns with #Indonesia’s industrial policy, which leverages its large consumer base to foster local economic development. Companies can meet the rule by manufacturing domestically, investing in innovation, or developing firmware locally. #Samsung and #Xiaomi have set up manufacturing operations in #Indonesia, while #Apple has invested in developer academies to fulfill the requirement. For tech giants failing to meet the threshold, such as #Google and #Apple, the ban means a loss of access to #SoutheastAsia’s biggest smartphone market, although neither ranks among the country’s top five smartphone brands. #Indonesia #Provelopers #GooglePixel #iPhone16 #TechRegulations #LocalContent #SmartphoneSales #DomesticInvestment #IndustrialPolicy #Apple #Google
