16 lab-grown brains run world’s first ‘living computer’ in Switzerland While training AI models consumes 6,000 times more than a European city, bioprocessor promise drastic savings in energy expenditures. Swiss technology firm Final Spark has successfully launched Neuroplatform, the world’s first bioprocessing platform where human brain organoids (lab-grown miniaturized versions of organs) perform computational tasks instead of silicon chips. The first such facility hosts the processing prowess of 16 brain organoids, which the company claims uses a million times less power than their silicon counterparts. https://lnkd.in/dq2Jmd6e

In a profound interview on AI Applied, Kai Beckmann, CEO of Merck Electronics, takes us behind the scenes in creating the chips that are changing the world, and the future of chip manufacturing. (I literally made him repeat himself on more than one occasion - it sounded like deep science fiction.) Here's the link: https://lnkd.in/dQt9SrHh Highly recommend you all checking out this interview. This was a photo his staff took of him while he was doing the podcast, which I just thought was cool. In Kai's own words (posted on his LinkedIn): +++ Why are materials so important in chip manufacturing? First off, it's about much more than silicon. In the AI Applied podcast, we discuss the background of technological innovations. For instance, we can only achieve high-performance chips with increasingly smaller structures down to atomic scales using the right materials. We are also exploring new ways and possibilities for making chips more powerful and energy-efficient, which will enable further groundbreaking technological advancements in the future. Innovations do not occur linearly. In the next ten years, we can expect much more than what we have experienced in the past decade. In addition to these exciting topics about technological progress, we also discuss the biggest challenges facing the semiconductor industry and the current open questions we need to find answers to, especially as artificial intelligence increasingly integrated into everyday applications. What are these challenges, and what does this have to do with soccer balls in Antarctica? Tune in. It's worth it! Thank you for the exciting conversation Jaeden Schafer & Conor Grennan. https://lnkd.in/dQt9SrHh +++ Follow Kai Beckmann, Jaeden Schafer, and AI Applied to keep up with the news and blow your mind. And if you like it, leave a rating and a review! Then let me know you did so I can thank you!

Our collaboration with #Meta highlights the crucial role that large, high-quality datasets and advanced material synthesis play in AI-driven materials research. Our technology enables the rapid and precise synthesis of nanoporous thin films, which is key to generating huge #datasets at speed—something traditional wet chemistry methods can’t match. Generating high-quality, scalable data is a game-changer for self-driving labs, where time is critical. By synthesizing diverse material combinations quickly, we create the datasets necessary to train #AI models to make accurate predictions about material properties. This enables AI to detect hidden patterns, speeding up material discovery for critical applications like catalysis, energy storage, and more. In the words of Peter Diamandis, science fiction becomes science reality. In this case, Hybrid Brains. We’ve all heard about Elon Musk’s work and controverseries around Neural Link- brain computer interfaces- but what if this is taken a step further, and used in humanoid robots? Well it has been: “The result is a robot that’s part brain, part electronic, and 100-percent cursed. A putty-like, grapefruit-sized organoid sits in the head-case of a bipedal, humanoid robot, providing an inoperative yet startlingly real vision of where this technology could be headed—but the road to that vision is filled with plenty of hurdles.” What could possibly go wrong? 🫣 What are your thoughts? This would make a great debate topic in schools for deliberating on ethics in AI and technology advances.

Ray Kurzweil's latest book "The Singularity is Nearer" provides great insights into the powers of AI and how the world stands to benefit. Ray is a noted inventor and futurist, and predicts that be 2029 computers with human level intelligence will exist. Ray is optimistic that the quality of life will improve dramatically as a result and points to the impact of technology over the ages as examples. One of the book's potentially controversal points is regarding the "neurallink", in which our cortexs are connected to computers. I highly recomend reading this book. #artificialintelligence #AI #nanobots #syntheticbiology #futureoftheworld
