Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a day where we lift up those around us and celebrate their contributions to the world. I want to thank those whom I've worked with over the years who have both informed and supported efforts of inclusion in our world. Without these tremendous, brilliant people, our world would be dull. They demonstrate that neurodiversity is an asset to be harnessed, and that our world can do better to include everybody To my friends and colleagues, thank you. Among so many others, a special thanks to: Dylan M. Rafaty, MADR, CDP (deaf/HoH) Meryl Evans, CPACC (deaf) Tiffany A. Yu, MSc Jim Sinocchi Mason Owings Taylor Shead

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed today, with the theme: “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.” ➡️ This occasion serves as a reminder to raise awareness about disabilities, including hidden ones. 💡 It is crucial that we educate ourselves to eliminate biases and promote inclusion, as well as fair treatment. We must begin with individual initiatives, followed by collective endeavors. Reflection: What initiatives are you undertaking to promote inclusion? Please share.

Today marks International Day of People with Disabilities 2024. This year's campaign theme is "Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future." The PALM scheme continues to support inclusive employment pathways that allow all individuals to contribute to the betterment of their home communities in the Pacific and Timor-Leste. One inspiring example is Jimmy from the Solomon Islands, who has earned a reputation as one of the most productive workers on his team. Despite having a hearing impairment, Jimmy has embraced this challenge and is thriving in his workplace. You can learn more about his story here:

Today we celebrate international day of people with disabilities with the theme of “amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future”. Consider the privileges those of us without disabilities enjoy every day without giving them a second thought. Today is the day to remind us to think. Think about the challenges of mobility, of gaining understanding, acceptance and recognition, of self expression, of living with the disabilities we can’t see - mental health, chronic disease. I have seen these first hand. People with disabilities are people who have dreams, aspirations, talents, commitment and drive. They need opportunity - it is our role as leaders to provide opportunity to bridge the equity divide. Commit today to amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future!

🌍 Today as we celebrate International Day of People with Disability, we are reflecting on the importance of inclusivity in our workplaces. This year’s theme is ‘Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future’. With around 20 percent of Australians identifying as having a disability, it’s crucial we raise awareness and acceptance. At Zinfra, we’re committed to creating a workplace that’s inclusive, supportive and where everyone feels they can belong. Share a story of community impact made by a person with a disability. • Inclusion Canada's initiative on deinstitutionalization is a powerful example of impactful community advocacy led by individuals with disabilities. This initiative, aimed at transitioning people with intellectual disabilities from institutions to community living, underscores the significance of self-determination and inclusivity. By advocating for person-centered planning and the right to live in the community, this movement has made considerable strides in transforming how society supports individuals with intellectual disabilities, promoting their full participation and inclusion in community life. • To engage further, consider exploring resources on deinstitutionalization, watching documentaries on the subject, or participating in conversations about community living for people with intellectual disabilities to foster greater awareness and support for inclusivity (Inclusion Canada).

Happy International Day of Persons With Disabilities 2024! This year’s theme: "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future," underscores the importance of empowering individuals with disabilities to take the lead in shaping their own lives and contributing to society. Community Development Services at UNITI is a great example of this in action! Within this creative service platform, people with developmental disabilities are able to tailor their support hours to do things they want to do, such as step into leadership roles—whether it's attending meetings, speaking publicly, or sitting on committees that influence key decisions in politics. These leaders are winning awards, pursuing higher education, and holding corporate memberships with organizations like Rotary and Resilient Women in Business. UNITI works to achieve our mission and to this specifically, there are two Ends/mission statements: “People are valued members of society” and “People are leaders.” We meet our mission when people are invited to participate as equals in shaping their communities. December 3rd, 2024, marks the annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), a day set aside by the United Nations in 1992 to recognize the contributions of people with disabilities and promote their full inclusion in society. This day is meaningful to me because it reminds us not just to reflect on the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, but to actively commit to removing barriers and unlocking potential. Here are some ways you can help: ✅ Speak up when you see inaccessibility. For example, if you see a blocked ramp or a broken elevator, report it or remove the barrier. ✅ Call out ableism, whether it’s in conversations, workplaces, or online. ✅ Advocate for inclusive policies at work, school, and in your community. ✅ Don’t make assumptions - listen to disabled people about their needs and experiences. ✅ Educate yourself and others about accessibility and the disabled community.
