...from the Diary of a Tax Advisor and MAD-Aid Trustee... 🌍 National Disability Day 2024: What a difference can £1 donation make? BIG DIFFERENCE!!! 🌟 https://lnkd.in/e29uY9Ai 📢 Today, on International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we honour the global developments toward equality and inclusion. From Franklin D. Roosevelt’s leadership as the first U.S. president with a disability in 1933, to the establishment of this day by the United Nations in 1992, progress has been significant. Yet, our mission continues, but there is still work to be done. 🙁 Unfortunately, we still have a healthcare system in which persons with disabilities have to adapt to the existing system. But it is time that we go further trying to adapt the system to fit around disability. For the past 12 years, Victoria Dunford, BEM and the MAD-Aid team have been on the front lines, transforming lives of people with disabilities in Moldova. Their mission: to deliver quality services and facilities for people with disabilities. Recently, their focus has shifted to an urgent need—improving the conditions in Moldova’s hospitals. 🛠️ Last year, MAD-AID began the capital restoration of the country’s main Children's Hospital. This facility is a lifeline for mothers and children facing critical and life-threatening conditions. At the moment the team is working hard to repair two wards that are in desperate need of completion, and time is running out. 🎯 The goal is to finish this part of the long-term project by the end of the year, and we need your help. ‼️ Just £1 per month can make a world of DIFFERENCE. Together, we can provide life-saving care and a brighter future for Moldova’s children. 💙 Join us in this mission. Donate today to support MAD-AID’s incredible work and help us turn hope into action. https://lnkd.in/eQ49ueCv

Yesterday, I spoke at the Westminster Insight's Disability Inclusion Digital Conference about the Draft Equality (Ethnicity and Disability) Bill (‘the Bill’). The Bill represents a significant legislative effort aimed at advancing inclusivity within the UK, particularly for marginalised groups, notably those with disabilities. This Bill evidences a growing recognition of systemic inequities, suggesting that up to 25% of disabled individuals in the UK experience frequent discrimination, often exacerbated by their ethnic background. The analytical lens through which the Bill can be viewed reveals both its potential benefits and its possible shortcomings. On one hand, the Bill seeks to address disparities by mandating employers to implement reasonable adjustments for disabled individuals while also promoting ethnic diversity in hiring practices. This could lead to a more equitable workforce, where the employment rate for disabled people—a staggering 28% as reported in recent statistics—might increase significantly. However, challenges remain. The intersection of disability and ethnicity means that a one-size-fits-all approach may not effectively address the nuanced experiences of individuals. In acknowledging these complexities, it becomes crucial to monitor the bill's implementation closely, ensuring it truly serves the dual purpose of protecting the rights of disabled individuals while simultaneously fostering representation. The Bill stands as a vital, albeit imperfect, step toward legislative reform in the UK's journey for equality. #DisabilityInclusionWM #DisabilityRepresentation

International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) Today, December 3rd, we celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This day is dedicated to promoting awareness and support for the rights, dignity, and well-being of people with disabilities. It also highlights the immense benefits of including people with disabilities in all aspects of society. Let's take a moment to reflect on the actions we are taking in our own lives to drive change. If you haven't yet, I encourage you to use this day to educate and inform yourself about the importance and impact of this day. Disability affects all of us, directly or indirectly, and if not today, it will at some point in our lives. Let's continue to work collectively in our communities to make inclusion, diversity, and accessibility a priority, not an afterthought. Together, we can create a more inclusive world for everyone. I am beyond lucky to work for an organization like CCRW which is taking action each and every day to drive change in this space! #Collaboration #Accessibility #DisabilityAwareness

We’re delighted to announce plans for Respond to join the Bild Group this year. We will continue our vital work offering people with learning disabilities and autistic people who have experienced trauma access to specialist psychotherapy, advocacy and trauma-informed training and consultation. Respond will join three other charities within the Bild Group – Bild, the Restraint Reduction Network and Bild Association of Certified Training – uniting our shared commitment to supporting people with learning disabilities and autistic people through trauma-informed working and championing human rights. All charities within the Bild Group operate with their own Board of Trustees and governance arrangements, whilst sharing a common goal – to help build a more inclusive society where everyone can enjoy the same rights and opportunities. There will be no changes to the services received by our clients. We will continue to be London-based, whilst also offering remote support, and will maintain our Respond name, brand and identity.
