Pacific Seminary energetically joins others around the world in celebrating API Heritage Month, which is observed annually in May for the purpose of honoring the immense contributions at multiple levels of the diverse cultures, histories, and traditions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. The 2024 AAPI Heritage Month theme, “Advancing Leaders Through Innovation,” resonates deeply with our educational mission and reminds us to work to increase our awareness regarding the challenges faced and the ongoing struggle for equity and justice. The theme also calls upon all of us to honor the visionaries and trailblazers who, through their grit and entrepreneurial spirits, have contributed to the common good through North American and global leadership while at many moments having to negotiate significant cultural and systemic barriers. Within our Christian community and ministries, we applaud and follow the many Asian Americans who now occupy leadership positions in our diverse institutions. (https://lnkd.in/enDut3eF) A recent report from the Pew Research Center noted that Asian Americans are the fastest-growing racial or ethnic group in the United States. Between 2000 and 2019, the U.S. Asian population grew 81 percent, and is projected to reach 46 million by 2060. (https://lnkd.in/eErGimSz).

Self Published Author Of Just Be Love And Just Be All Heart By Irene Girvan. THINK! SOMETIMES PEOPLE JUST DOESN'T THINK THEY JUST GO BLINDLY IN THINKING THEY ARE RIGHT, ONE SIDE AGAINST ANOTHER. BUT THAT'S NOT THE CASE. IT'S A BUILD UP OF PENT UP EMOTIONS OR JUST FOLLOW THE LEADER. UNFORTUNATELY WE DON'T HAVE A SAY IN THE MATTER IF WE SPEAK UP WE ARE WRONG UNTIL IT ESCALATES INTO SOMETHING NOBODY WANTS, DON'T GET ME WRONG WE NEED TO STAND UP FOR OUR RIGHTS BUT TO DO IT IN AN INTELLIGENT WAY. UNFORTUNATELY THERE IS LOTS OF SLANG AND YOU NOTICE NOT ALOT OF EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE OF THE RIGHT SORT. ITS ABOUT ONES THAT IS LEFT OUT, BEING MADE TO FEEL LIKE AN MINORITY IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY, IT'S GOVERNMENTS FAULT THEY GIVE TO OTHERS SO READILY WHILST WE HAVE TO SUFFER. SO THAT IS THE COMPARISON. BUT VIOLENCE IS NOT THE ANSWER, UNFORTUNATELY SOMETIMES YOU CAN BE PUT INTO A RAGE WITH THE UNFAIRNESS OF IT ALL. RIGHT, LEFT AND CENTER IT DOESN'T MATTER TRYING TO BURN DOWN A HOTEL IS NOT VERY WISE ITS HATE, BUT LOOKING AT IT FROM ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE WE ARE BORN AND BRED HERE SUFFERING AT THE HANDS OF THE PEOPLE THAT IS ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN, ITS NOT JEALOUSY ITS OUR HUMAN RIGHTS THAT IS NOT BEING ATTENDED TOO. IF ANYTHING GO AND PROTEST WHERE THE BOATS ARE COMING IN, FIND OUT WHO THEY ARE THAT'S ALREADY IN THE COUNTRY. MAYBE HUMBLE YOURSELF AND SAY "THERE FOR THE GRACE OF GOD GO I." ITS GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH RELIGION BUT TRADITIONS THAT DOESN'T SUIT EVERYONE. REMEMBER "EVIL IS WHAT EVIL DOES." GET TO KNOW PEOPLE WITHOUT SUSPISION STOP TRYING TO CHANGE US INTO ACCEPTING THE UNACCEPTABLE. BUT STOP HOUSING OTHERS BEFORE US, STOP TAKING OFF BENEFITS OF US TO GIVE THEM STOP STIRRING IT UP BY TURNING ONE ANOTHER AGAINST EACH OTHER, FAIRNESS AND PEACE IS MOSTLY WHAT EVERYONE WANTS ARE YOU GOING TO GIVE IT TO US? #peace #togetherness #weareallsharingthesameearth #eqaulity #everyonehashumanrights #thereisnowronguntilyoucreateit

Race Unity Day, also known as Race Amity Day, is observed annually on the second Sunday of June. Established in 1957 in the United States by the Bahá’í National Spiritual Assembly, it aims to combat racial prejudice and promote racial harmony. It is celebrated worldwide to encourage societal acceptance of racial diversity. Racism extends beyond cultural settings to legal, economic, and political systems, perpetuating discrimination and inequalities. The Bahá’í National Spiritual Assembly, formed in 1844, is responsible for coordinating the affairs of local spiritual assemblies and the Bahá’í community. Despite being organized by the Bahá’í National Spiritual Assembly, Race Unity Day is not a religious event or a Bahá’í holy day.Critical race theory, developed in the 1980s, brought attention to institutional or systemic racism, and today, biological race is acknowledged as a cultural construct lacking scientific basis. #DEI #diversity #equity #inclusion #intentiontoimpact #CULTURL #Calendar #RaceUnityDay

🎭 Embracing Diversity: Reflecting on Purim's Lesson in Authenticity at Work 🎭 Today Sedex took the opportunity to celebrate Purim by making Mishloach Manot (Purim gift bags). Purim (which is this Sunday) is a joyous Jewish holiday marked by costumes, revelry, and the retelling of an ancient story, it's an opportune moment to reflect on its relevance to our modern workplaces. Purim commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people from persecution in ancient Persia. One aspect of this tale often overlooked is the necessity for many Jews, like Queen Esther, to conceal their true identity in order to navigate their professional and personal lives safely. In today's diverse workplaces, many individuals still grapple with the decision to reveal or conceal aspects of their identity, including their cultural or religious background (there were times when starting in my career that I was guilty of this). While Purim's context may be historical, its lessons remain deeply resonant. We must foster environments where authenticity is not just encouraged but celebrated. When individuals feel empowered to bring their whole selves to work, they contribute more fully, innovate more boldly, and collaborate more effectively. It's truly inspiring to see the work Sedex does around diversity. Creating a safe space for people from different religions and backgrounds to come together and share their customs and beliefs with a team who are eager to learn. Let's take this Purim as an opportunity to reflect on how we can create inclusive workplaces where everyone feels valued and accepted for who they truly are. Together, let's strive to make every day a celebration of diversity, authenticity, and unity. Chag Purim Sameach! 🎉 #Purim #DiversityandInclusion #AuthenticityAtWork #InclusiveWorkplaces #CelebratingDiversity
