Inc.'s Female Founders 250 has dropped. It's the 7th annual list of women entrepreneurs making significant waves in business. It features founders that grew their collective 2023 revenue to more than $8.86 billion and raised $6.2 billion in funding. 7News On Your Side is highlighting equality in business -- and a new partnership in Arlington County is focused on providing support to female entrepreneurs and business owners. That partnership is with Citrine Angels, a nonprofit group of angel investors. The organization is made up of 75 female investors, who invest in companies and startups created by women. "We exist to get more women, writing more checks, into more women-owned companies, so that we can change the cycle of funding," Citrine Angels Board President and Co-Founder Stephanie Marshall said. 🤔 What are the challenges facing female founders? Early last year, the Harvard Business Review published an article highlighting the obstacles female founders face when fundraising from female VCs. Here are a few of my takeaways: ➜ Gender homophily can lead to biased evaluations, making it harder for women to raise funds. ➜ Female founders funded by female VCs are less likely to secure additional rounds. ➜ Pitches by female-backed female entrepreneurs receive lower evaluations due to perceived competence. ➜ Promoting inclusive investing, where male and female investors support female entrepreneurs together, can mitigate bias. Acknowledging unconscious bias and adjusting evaluation processes can lead to more equitable outcomes.
