🚨Critique of the GST Council's Decision on Affiliation Services by Central and State educational boards.🚨 • The 54th GST Council Meeting has made a controversial decision by granting tax exemption to affiliation services provided by Central and State educational boards to Government Schools, while denying the same exemption to privately-owned and other non-government schools. This decision raises several concerns about fairness and equity in the education sector.❌ • Education is a fundamental right and should be equally accessible and affordable to all. By selectively exempting affiliation services for government-owned schools from GST while taxing others, the GST Council is effectively creating a disparity that disadvantages private and independent schools. This will indirectly lead to higher school fees in private schools.❗🛑 Hence, the exemption of GST on affiliation services for government schools, while denying it to others, is not only unfair but also counterproductive in the long run. The focus should be on ensuring affordable and quality education for all, not just those in government-owned institutions. 🙏 Professional please share your views on this. Exciting update for businesses and Skills Development. In yesterday's Budget speech, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced an extension to the Learnership tax incentive. The sunset date for the Section 12H learnership tax incentive, designed to bolster workplace education, skill enhancement and employment, has been extended by three years until March 31, 2027. This extension allows ample time for thorough evaluation before determining its future. In short, this means that organisations will still have access to this excellent rebate for another three years. Good news for businesses, training providers and learners. #SkillsDevelopment #TaxIncentive #WorkplaceEducation

🤣🤣🤣🤣President Ruto is trying to sanitize, to strengthen his position, as the political landscape grows increasingly uncertain. If I were in his place, aiming to secure victory in the 2027 elections, here’s what I would do: Prioritize Education: I’d invest heavily in education by hiring more teachers, ensuring our young minds receive quality guidance and support. End the Andani Deal: To demonstrate transparency and integrity, I’d terminate the Andani deal, focusing instead on more beneficial partnerships for the nation. Implement Tax Reforms: I’d introduce tax relief by exempting anyone earning less than Ksh 100,000 per month from taxes, easing the burden on middle-income earners. Enhance Hospitality at Borders: Visitors from abroad would enjoy a seamless experience at our airports, free from excessive fees and interference, to encourage tourism and business. Crack Down on Corruption: Anyone involved in corruption would face serious consequences, ensuring a fair and just society. Affordable Essentials: Essentials like maize flour would be priced at Ksh 30 per kilo and cooking oil at a similarly affordable rate, helping ease the cost of living for all Kenyans." This approach would strengthen the government’s connection with the people and address many of the pressing issues facing our nation.

An excellent article by Jonathan Main summarising what we know so far about the introduction of VAT to supplies of education by independent schools and also what some of the difficulties are that the Government will face when drafting the legislation. Regardless of what the final detail looks like, there are steps that independent schools should be taking now to prepare themselves. This range from ensuring that accounting systems and process are ready to deal with VAT, to reviewing historic capital expenditure which may be eligible for VAT recovery. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss further. #VAT #MHA

The skilled, educated, hardworking salaried class is under extreme distress in Pakistan. Up to 45% of the income tax on sources leaves zero disposable income for us. We can't invest in our education; we can't experiment, and we can't even think about starting job-creating businesses. Here's what the government must do to save the day: 1. Add reserved seats for the salaried class in the senate, national, and provincial assemblies. 2. Maximum tax should be 10% on all salaried class employees. 3. Since taxes are deducted on source through our CNIC numbers, salaried class professionals must be considered active taxpayers even if they don't file their tax returns. 4. A special GST discount based on CNIC must be given to salaried-class people when purchasing groceries. 5. Utility bills of salaried persons must not contain extra taxes like GST based on CNIC. 6. No income tax on up to 2.4 million rupees of salaried income per year. 7. Social security for every salaried class person who's been paying income tax for 5 years. Good points. It may take time to actually having full or portion of the demands accepted by the relevant stakeholders however it is precise will of salaried individuals.
