Sustainability: Moving beyond conventional practices   The key message stemming from our ‘Net Zero, Naturally’ event, held at the Barbican earlier in June, was that conventional sustainability is not enough. We must rethink our role as human beings.   Here’s our top five take aways from our event on how the real estate sector can start to shift from sustainable to regenerative:   1. Embrace technological advancement. - Master solar energy and innovative technologies.   2. Drive cultural change. - Prioritise cultural change shifting from being ‘less bad’ to ‘net positive’ for lasting impact.   3. Adopt regenerative design principles. - Aim for regenerative practices that give back more than they take. - Think beyond human needs to include all life forms.   4. Learn from nature. - Use nature-inspired materials and processes. - Explore bio-mineralization and geo-mineralization techniques. - Create buildings that sequester carbon, like coral reefs do.   5. Redesign buildings and cities. - Incorporate natural light, ventilation, and waste management systems. - Design cities that mimic mature ecosystems’ functions. - Maximize wildlife colonization in urban environments.   By working together and taking one step at a time, we can start to rethink our approach to the built environment and aim for regenerative solutions.   What changes will you make in your working practices?
