Manhattan’s famed luxury store row Fifth Avenue is in line for a major makeover. New York City officials recently unveiled a plan to transform a central portion of the thoroughfare between Bryant Park and Central Park into a more pedestrian-centered boulevard. They propose doubling the size of sidewalks, reducing traffic lanes from five to three, as well as adding seating areas and hundreds of trees and planters, among other improvements. The vision is to emulate iconic strolling and shopping boulevards such as the Champs-Élysées in Paris. What are your thoughts on this proposal? The Manhattan luxury market saw a slight uptick in activity this week with 16 contracts signed compared to 11 contracts last week. The majority of the deals signed were condos with only 5 behind co-ops. There were no townhouse deals last week. The majority of deals were in the Upper East Side and Downtown. In Brooklyn, we saw a slight dip with 19 contracts signed compared to the prior week’s 21. The majority of deals signed were condos, with only 6 townhouses signed and no co-ops. The average asking price has also dipped from the prior week at $2,918,847. **Poundland begins mass overhaul of general merchandise** Poundland & Dealz has begun a mass overhaul of its general merchandise ranges that will see 2,000 new lines introduced across all its UK and Ireland stores. The change means that the discount retailer has access to the same products available in Pepco’s 4,800-plus store estate across Europe. Poundland said the move will help it deliver on its promise of amazing value to customers and is the single biggest change to its offer in its 30-plus history. From today, shoppers will start to see new lines across kitchenware, toys, technology, as well as bathroom and home décor. Almost 1,000 of the new items are now available in Poundland’s 850-plus stores across the UK and Ireland, with the rest of the changeover taking place over the coming weeks.
