Today is the United Nations’ World Environment Day, the day where people from across the world speak up to raise awareness and action for the protection of the environment. Our environment. The world is joining together to discuss land restoration, desertification and drought resilience, all under the 2024 slogan of “Our land. Our future. Today is World Water Day 💧 Did you know that 703 million people (almost one in ten) don’t have clean water close to home? At Nviro, we’re proud to have donated 433,620 litres of water to developing countries while reducing our water consumption by 529,980 litres in 2023 by using i-mops across our service and working with i-team Global and Made Blue Foundation. Compared to a traditional mop and bucket, which uses 40 litres a day, an i-mop uses just 18 litres. For every litre of water we use, the same is donated which helps support the construction of new water wells. This means we can lower our water footprint and contribute to the availability of water in the countries that need it. Since her last update, Evie has saved an impressive 330 kg of carbon! 🍃 That brings Evie the EV's total CO2 savings up to 1,660 kg! 💪 Since she arrived at Rainbow Restoration Hampshire, Sussex & Isle of Wight, Evie has travelled 3,473 miles in total and 723 miles since her last update. During those 723 miles, Evie was called to inspect and secure a detached bungalow that had suffered fire damage and has been assisting Paul A. Ryan and his team at a local charity centre in carrying out restoration services. Surpassing 1.5 tonnes of carbon savings is an impressive milestone for Evie. She has made a tangible impact in keeping the air clean and protecting our planet; next stop: 2,000 kg. Rainforests are the lungs of our Earth and the largest, most important is the Amazon rainforest. Rainforest Trust will partner with local Brazilian organisations to defend these vulnerable areas from deforestation by designating forests as protected areas and Indigenous territories. Land grabbing, illegal mining and forest fires all threaten the Brazilian Amazon from thriving. Without demarcating these boundaries for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, the lush, verdant Amazon we know today will irreversibly flip into a dry, barren savannah. Conserving this globally vital forest can safely lock up 6 billion metric tonnes of CO₂ equivalents which equates to more than 14 times the UK’s annual total CO₂ emissions. The Environmental Grant Scheme provides funding for 'not for profit' organisations in #Harborough district to support capital projects with a demonstrable positive impact on the environment. Village groups, community enterprises, registered charities, & town/parish councils can apply for grants ranging from £5,000 to £20,000.
