NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration and IBM Research have joined forces to develop the Prithvi-weather-climate AI model, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing weather and climate applications. This advanced AI model leverages NASA's Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis for Research and Applications (MERRA) data to significantly improve resolution for more accurate regional and local forecasts. Here are some key insights: - The Prithvi-weather-climate model increases forecast resolution for more accurate regional and local weather and climate models. - The model is trained using NASA's MERRA data, ensuring high-quality inputs for precise projections. - The model aids in producing tools for weather, seasonal, and climate projections, supporting informed decisions for preparation, response, and mitigation. - The model can be scaled without losing detail, applicable to both global and regional locations. Great partnership to work on an exciting project with tremendous societal relevance, as NASA always do!
Amazing 🤩
Great!
Karen St. Germain thanks for the post — great to see the collaboration with the world’s largest democracy. Did or does the collaboration require any special structure to address ITAR concerns, e.g., a technical exchange agreement with MeitY or some such? Perhaps there’s an approved structure in place legislation-wise ( or perhaps it doesn’t matter :)).
