NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration and IBM Research have joined forces to develop the Prithvi-weather-climate AI model, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing weather and climate applications. This advanced AI model leverages NASA's Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis for Research and Applications (MERRA) data to significantly improve resolution for more accurate regional and local forecasts. Here are some key insights: - The Prithvi-weather-climate model increases forecast resolution for more accurate regional and local weather and climate models. - The model is trained using NASA's MERRA data, ensuring high-quality inputs for precise projections. - The model aids in producing tools for weather, seasonal, and climate projections, supporting informed decisions for preparation, response, and mitigation. - The model can be scaled without losing detail, applicable to both global and regional locations. Karen St. Germain thanks for the post — great to see the collaboration with the world’s largest democracy. Did or does the collaboration require any special structure to address ITAR concerns, e.g., a technical exchange agreement with MeitY or some such? Perhaps there’s an approved structure in place legislation-wise ( or perhaps it doesn’t matter :)).
