The Indian Alcobev Industry - A Quick Glance India is the third largest alcobev market in the world by volume, closely following the USA and China. While it is currently evaluated at 55 billion dollars this market is expected to grow to 64 billion dollars over the next five years. The Indian alcobev industry claims a lion's share of this market, offering direct and indirect employment to a staggering 79 lakh individuals in India (as per ISWAI). Indian alcobev brands are not just making their presence felt globally, they are winning awards at reputed international competitions, thus earning a strong association with high quality. Continuing its multifaceted growth, the industry is now producing a diverse range of alcoholic beverages and riding up the premiumisation curve, fueled by growing demand for premium liquor among Indian consumers. "In the past decade, the Indian beverage industry has shifted its focus from producing solely in India to creating drinks specifically tailored to the Indian market. Consumers have become more discerning and are now looking for brands with Indian heritage. Over the last two years, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, the focus has shifted to "Made for India" and "Made in India for the world,'' said Mr Kunal Vasudeva, Co-founder & Managing Director, Indian School of Hospitality. 'The top single malt in the world, for the last 3-4 years has been an Indian single malt, and the best-infused gins are also made in India for the world. Furthermore, Bira now exports to the Middle East from India, so 10-15 percent of all "Made in India" products are now also "Made for the World," added Mr Vasudeva. Experts also claim that the entire industry is witnessing a disruption across different segments such as supply chain, cold storage, manufacturing, logistics and consumers. (Source: Economic Times) With the alcobev industry on the rise, there’s a need to recognise and reward both the new and established! So if you are a budding wines or spirits brand or an established one, we are looking forward to your nominations for India Wines and Spirits Award 2024! 🥂 #wine #wineindustry #local #madeinindia #indiawinesandspiritsaward #iwsaward2024 #gin #spirits #alcobev #indianalcobev

#PernodRicard finished 30 years in India. Known for its super premium to mass brands like #ChivasRegal, #Absolut, #Jameson to #BlendersPride, the company to commemorate its long presence in India launched its own Indian single malt, Longitude 77. But are they a little late to the game? Can they take on the local players like #Amrut, #PaulJohn and #Indri? “The launch of Longitude 77 was a measure to deepen our commitment to making and innovating in India for the world. As Pernod Ricard celebrates its remarkable 30-year journey in India, we reflect proudly on the impact we've had here,” says Jean Touboul, CEO, Pernod Ricard, India. The alcobev maker has been around for a while to understand that Indians’ love for brown spirits, especially whiskey, is not limited by price. Those who have happily graduated to single malts in 2024 still enjoy their blended spirits as well. And Pernod Ricard wants to cater to them all. According to #VinodGiri, director general of Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (#CIABC), Indian single malt brands grew nearly 23% during 2023, whereas international brands grew 11% during the same period, as reported by ET. Indian manufacturers, especially Amrut Distilleries, John Distilleries and now Piccadily Distilleries have successfully taken over the single malt consumption of Indians. Out of the total 675,000 cases of single malts sold in India in 2023, 53% was contributed by Indian brands such as Amrut, Paul John, Indri, Rampur and GianChand. Jason Holway of #IWSR says, “One of the key characteristics of India’s beverage alcohol industry is the composition of the market – and this is encouraging domestic and international distillers alike to invest in and develop portfolios. India is (with country liquor not counted in the total) a 100% foreign liquor market. On the other hand, China for example, is a domestic liquor market dominated by baijiu, which commands 99% of the total beverage alcohol market in volume terms.” Read the full story only on ET Prime. #PernodRicard #ChivasRegal #Absolut #BlendersPride #IndianSingleMalts #FrenchAlcobev #Longitude77 #Godawan

Wine vs. Hard Liquor in India 🍷🥃 While India boasts a rich cultural heritage and diverse palate, it's intriguing to note that wine consumption still trails behind hard liquor in our nation. 🇮🇳 Let's delve into a few factors that contribute to this trend. 1. **Cultural Traditions**: India has a longstanding tradition of celebrating with spirits like whisky and rum, deeply ingrained in various cultural practices. Wine, often associated with Western cultures, is yet to establish a similar deep-rooted connection. 2. **Pricing and Accessibility**: The affordability and widespread availability of hard liquor, especially local spirits, make them more accessible to a larger demographic. Wine, on the other hand, is often perceived as a premium choice, limiting its accessibility to a specific demographic. 3. **Education and Awareness**: There's a general lack of awareness about the diverse world of wines in India. Educating consumers about the variety, flavors, and potential health benefits of wine could contribute to a shift in preferences. 4. **Social Perception**: The social connotations attached to different beverages play a crucial role. Hard liquor is often associated with celebration and camaraderie, while wine might be perceived as more formal or reserved for special occasions. 5. **Food Pairing Culture**: Indian cuisine is well-matched with the bold flavors of hard liquor. While wine pairings are gaining popularity, it's a trend that is still evolving and not as deeply embedded in our dining culture. Let's continue the conversation! Why do you think wine hasn't gained as much popularity as hard liquor in India? 🤔 #WineVsHardLiquor #IndianDrinksCulture
