Karyotica Labs Award Recipient! I’m excited to share that Karyotica Labs has been selected for funding through the Accelerate Program by Invest Nova Scotia! Karyotica Labs, based in Nova Scotia, is focused on transforming agriculture and aquaculture wastes into powerful bio-stimulants using microbial fermentation. Our flagship product, PepStim- H, a highly effective biostimulant derived from agricultural waste, is slated to launch in Q2 of 2025. After several years of research, trials of our biostimulants on various crops have consistently shown excellent results, including a 30% reduction in synthetic fertilizer usage and a 22% increase in yields. (See the attached image of our tomato plant trials below.) PepStim- H has emerged as the most effective among the many biostimulants currently available. While conventional biostimulants like humic acid have limited capacity to promote plant growth and soil health, PepStim- H offers superior nutrient uptake without any toxicity. Additionally, its ability to accelerate plant growth supports greater carbon sequestration, as demonstrated in previous trials with industrial hemp farms. Our innovative technology harnesses industrial enzymes and beneficial microbes to quickly convert organic waste into nutrient-rich solutions with high biostimulant activity. Microbial fermented metabolites have gained significant attention in agriculture due to their ability to enhance plant health, increase growth, and improve crop nutrition. ELICIT PLANT Secures $48M Series B to Accelerate U.S. Expansion Elicit Plant announced the completion of a $48 million Series B funding round to support its international expansion, with an emphasis on the U.S. Corn Belt. The investment will further the development of the company’s phytosterol-based solutions, which have shown promising results in reducing crop water use by 20%, an advancement that aligns with the urgent needs of U.S. farmers facing water scarcity challenges. The Series B funding round, led by Carbyne Equity Partners and joined by Sofinnova Partners, European Circular Bioeconomy Fund (ECBF), and BPI EcoGreenTech, will support Elicit Plant’s expansion into Europe and Brazil, alongside its U.S. ambitions. Jean-François Déchant, CEO of Elicit Plant, commented on the funding, stating, “This funding validates our product’s large-scale performance and fuels our entry into strategic markets like the U.S., pushing us toward global leadership by 2028.” The company’s products, which have been trialed across maize, cereals, sunflower, and soybeans since 2022, are designed to reduce water dependency in crops, an innovation that addresses the 23% of U.S. agricultural land affected by water stress. 🌿 From India to the United States of America: Successful trials Confirm BioPrime’s Potential to Revolutionize Agriculture Globally In August 2023, we undertook a daunting task of proving our technology in the American markets. We have had the groundbreaking success of BioPrime Fortisea in the Indian & South Asian markets; our next stop was the developed markets of North America. These trials were conducted with the help of an accredited validation agency in the USA. 🌱 BioPrime Fortisea, a unique Seaweed formulation produced using our inhouse cold extraction process has proven its worth with resounding success in the trials laid on Tomato in San Luis Ranch, California. Tomato industry in USA is a dynamic & thriving one, with an array of fresh fruits & processed forms being a staple item in American kitchens. ✨ Not only have we achieved increased productivity of 10% over the standard grower practice, but also notable improvement in the income levels. On an acre basis, our trial plot yielded $1738 higher than the standard grower’s practice. What came as rewarding feedback was on the early maturity of the Tomato crops, meaning a significant boost to the grower’s income levels.  But this is not the final story We wanted to take a big bet to showcase the performance on the reduced fertilizer application! In trial two, we reduced the fertilizer application to 80% of the standard grower’s practice. The outcomes were 33% increased production along with $4872 increased income on an acre basis. Against the standard grower practice in San Luis, California; this was 30% higher than the regular income levels. The positive feedback from the North American market underscores the practical benefits of BioPrime Fortisea, affirming its potential to enhance agricultural productivity globally.
