The headline of #german companies investing record amounts in #china doesn't really match the statement later that "German investments in China in the past four years were financed entirely by reinvested profit and companies have also withdrawn capital". Profits? I thought according to the media stories, the #chineseeconomy is collapsing, so how come there are such big profits that can fuel record investment? There are some interesting opportunities in China right now, with more to come, am not surprised that German businesses are re-investing there. But I also see significantly increased investment by German businesses in #africa which I see as the start of an increasing trend. https://lnkd.in/eEyDWYaC

Word of the Day Foreign Direct Investment FDI stands for Foreign Direct Investment, which refers to an investment made by a company or individual in one country in business interests in another country, in the form of establishing business operations or acquiring business assets. FDI plays a significant role in the global economy by facilitating the flow of capital and technology between countries. Receiving FDI money can boost a country’s economic growth and international trade. Example: McDonald’s US investing in an Indian subsidiary.

The Vietnamese FDI juggernaut rolls on bagging $US 21 billion in new investments in the first 8 months of the year. "The top five countries and territories... Singapore, Hong Kong (China), Japan, mainland China and South Korea, accounted for...77.1 per cent of the...registered capital." A couple of things jump out: 1. Singapore retains it's top spot, a position it has held since 2020 although South Korea retains it's top spot in terms of total FDI stock 2. The top 5 are all Asian. In fact only the British Virgin Islands (7th) and the Netherlands (8th) interupt Asian dominance 3. Total FDI stock is approaching $US 600 billion, it was just $US 2 million in 1998. All of this again underlines the point that Asia is fast becoming its own biggest trading partner and capital supplier. Capitalising on rising incomes means being where the consumer is. China to grant FDI greater access to its markets Investment: Policies bring about new growth opportunities 👀 China will further shorten the negative list for foreign investment and implement pilot programs to ease access for global companies in the fields of scientific and technological innovation, said an action plan released by the General Office of the State Council, China's Cabinet, on March 19.
