Glass cover slips were used for preparation of protein stamps. The microcontact-BSA imprinted gold electrodes were prepared in the presence of methacrylic acid (MAA) and poly-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (PEGDMA) as the cross-linker by bringing the protein stamp and the gold electrode into contact under UV-polymerization. Real-time BSA detection studies were performed in the concentration range of 1.0 × 10−20–1.0 × 10−8 M with a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.0 × 10−19 M. Cross-reactivity towards HSA and IgG were 5 and 3%, respectively. This book contains basic information on the development of the "DRUG METABOLISM" scientific field. Reactions and mechanisms are illustrated by taking clinically well-approved "classical" drugs with examples of other xenobiotics, such as environmental chemicals and selected endobiotics. Prof. S. Rendic has collected the material presented, which contains information collected from many literature sources, as well as data published by the author. The book is prepared for teaching purposes at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, University of Zagreb. As the field of drug metabolism is the subject of very intensive and progressive research using new technologies, new data are continuously published in the field with new insights and sometimes correcting previously published data (i.e., enzymes involved in the particular reaction(s), mechanisms of reaction(s), etc.). The partly updated material is available at the Research Gate site under the title BIOTRANSFORMATION OF XENOBIOTICS AND ENDOBIOTICS for beginners with clinical and toxicological approaches.

Briefly, The present research is devoted to optimizing the green synthesis technology of silver nanoparticles (AgNP) with antibacterial properties for further external use. Standardized marigold flowers extract was utilized as reducing and stabilizing agent, which has significantly richer composition of phytochemical groups compared to its aqueous extracts. A comparative analysis of the physicochemical properties and sedimentation stability of AgNPs obtained by exposure of the reaction mixture to: UV radiation, microwave radiation and high temperature using UV–Vis spectrophotometry and Zeta potential analysis were carried out. pH effect of the reaction mixture on size distribution of AgNPs was evaluated. A good stability of AgNPs to aggregation was observed for samples generated under ultraviolet irradiation with continuous stirring. The particle size distribution obtained by UV irradiation with an average size of 80 nm and PDI 0.26. The storage of AgNPs at 4 °C resulted in some aggregation of small size AgNPs that led to the increase the absorbance at 430 nm. Thus, after one month of storage there was no following increase of the absorbance and there was non-significant aggregation over 3 months’ study. Our article reached 900 reads Achieved on July 20, 2024 Article: One-step formation of three-dimensional macroporous bacterial sponges as a novel approach for the preparation of bioreactors for bioremediation and green treatment of water We propose a novel method for producing a porous bacteria based structure with the properties of a sponge (bacterial sponge) that we then use as a bioreactor for water treatment. Cryogelation has been used as a tool to create macroporous (i.e. with pores in the range 10–100 μm), highly permeable systems with low diffusion constraints and high bacterial content (more than 98% to total material content). A novel crosslinking system was used to form stable bacterial sponges with a high percentage of live bacteria organized in a 3D porous structure. The bacterial sponge was produced in a one step process and can be made from one or several bacterial strains (in this case, two bacterial strains #Pseudomonas mendocina and #Rhodoccocus koreensis (and a mixture of both) were used). Reduction of the total polymer content to 2% makes the system more sustainable and environmentally friendly under disposal as it can be simply composted. The bacterial sponges have good mechanical stability and cell viability, which enables repeated use of the materials for phenol degradation for up to five weeks. The material can be stored and transported in cryogenic conditions (−80 °C) for prolonged periods of time, retaining its #bioremediation activity following 4–6 weeks of frozen storage. The proposed method of producing bioreactors with a high number of live #immobilised #bacteria, low polymer content and controlled 3D structure is a promising tool for developing novel materials based on active bacterial cells for various environmental, biotechnological, biological and medical applications. #UoB #UniversityofBrighton

The paper covers examples of substrates, inducers, and inhibitors of the enzyme systems and their role in possible drug-drug interactions in vivo.

Due to the presence of free amine groups in its backbone chain, chitosan could be further chemically modified to possess additional functional properties useful for the development of different biomaterials in regenerative medicine.
