3D Gaussian Splatting meets foundation models and tactile sensing! When humans encounter a new environment or object, we can quickly get the hang of it, not only through our eyes but also through interactive touching and common-sense priors. We don't "perceive" everything as if we were born just a few seconds ago. At AI4CE@NYU, we hope the same is true for robots in the future. In our new work, FusionSense, we explore fusing depth and normal information from foundation models and classic geometric vision techniques such as visual hull to improve 3D Gaussian initialization and training under sparse view scenarios. We also design a pipeline to let VLM reason about where to touch to refine the details of the reconstruction. The result is promising. Real3D: Scaling Up Large Reconstruction Models with Real-World Images 🔔🔔🔔 The default strategy for training single-view Large Reconstruction Models (LRMs) relies on fully supervised methods using synthetic 3D assets or multi-view captures, which are limited in scalability and representation of real object shapes. To address these limitations, Real3D introduces a novel self-training framework that utilizes both synthetic data and single-view real images, incorporating two unsupervised losses for pixel- and semantic-level supervision without ground-truth 3D or novel views.
