Add a scoop of science to your plate 🥕 That's the line from nutrition app ZOE, who have just launched their new supplement containing over 30 plants and 35 different types of fibre, designed to be sprinkled on food. Gut health is tricky to communicate, but science-led #foodanddrink communication can immediately win trust. Tim Spector is a credible and recognisable face - people, mostly, trust him. The new supplement comes with data from the brand's own RCT in which: 51% reported an improvement in energy, 55% found an improvement in indigestion, and 45% had an improvement in mood. Some thoughts: 📈 Strategy: Moves Zoe to a place of innovation away from the supplement market which flooded and most ineffective. Promoting diet quality through actual good ingredients makes much more sense than a highly-priced plastic-wrapped yoghurt drink. 💰 Price: At £33 for a monthly subscription this is a luxury product. Focussing on increasing fruit/ veg/ quality will be more beneficial and accessible for most. Adding the product as a single-serve to the meal deal is a great way to drive trial. 🔬 UPF: Just before the launch of the Kefir shot, Tim Spector was quoted as saying, "Anything in a plastic wrapped with what we call "health halos" is generally bad". According to Zoe's website, this new product fills a deficiency caused by the UPF food environment. I'm not sure if the science stacks up here, but the positioning certainly does. 🌍 Scale: Launching into Waitrose & Partners gives broader reach and more aligned customer demographic. Most people will not follow the Zoe app forever but may live by the principles. This keeps them in the market. Are Zoe now lining up to be the future of a giant like Danone or Nestle? Does this continued food innovation take them on a pathway to exit? In any case, impressive stuff, and I'll be following with interest!

✨THE IMPACT OF NUTRITION ON YOUR WELL-BEING ✨ In recent years, the world of nutrition has evolved from simply meeting dietary needs to a comprehensive approach that impacts physical, mental, and emotional well-being. As Marcella Sarno explains in The Best Version of Me-Nutrition chapter, nutrition today is seen as a key to unlocking overall wellness and even optimizing work performance. By understanding the impact of dietary choices on our bodies and minds, we can not only boost our health but also enhance productivity and resilience in the workplace. ✨This shift is clear in the trends we see today—personalized nutrition, sustainable food choices, and bio-individuality, all of which recognize that each person has unique nutritional needs that can significantly influence their lives. ✨She emphasizes the link between proper nutrition and our daily performance, showcasing stories of people who, through personalized dietary adjustments, saw improvements not only in their gut health but also in their mood, energy, and daily productivity. This transformation underscores how essential good nutrition is for sustaining high performance at work. ✨One of the most compelling insights from her work is the impact of the gut-brain axis—a connection between digestive health and mental wellness that plays a significant role in focus and mood. Nutritional psychiatry, a growing field, uses diet and supplements to address mental health, showing that nutrient deficiencies can impact cognitive function, mood, and resilience against disorders like anxiety and depression. Finally, this chapter emphasizes bio-individuality in nutrition, advocating for personalized dietary choices based on unique needs, genetics, and lifestyle. The approach promotes sustainable habits that consider environmental impact, like plant-based diets, portion control, and reduced food waste. ✨By prioritizing whole, minimally processed foods, this perspective nurtures a deep, sustainable relationship with food and encourages physical and mental vitality, personal empowerment, and respect for individual dietary needs. From fat-free to high-protein: A new paradigm? 🍽️💪 We’ve come a long way from the days of “less” — less fat, less sugar, fewer carbs. The conversation has evolved, and now, high-protein diets are taking center stage. Today, it's not just about cutting things out — it's about fueling our bodies smarter and healthier. 💡 Why this shift? Well, protein has emerged as the cornerstone of modern nutrition. Whether it’s fitness enthusiasts looking to build muscle, or those managing weight with trending medications like #Ozempic, the focus is increasingly on optimizing metabolism, muscle growth, and overall health. 🌟 But here’s the thing: the global demand for protein is skyrocketing, both from demographic increase but also from consumers’ diet pattern changes. It’s not just about more protein, it’s about better protein. Consumers are more mindful of the quality and source of their food. 🌿 As much as we want nutritious options, the pressure is also on to make sure they are sustainable. That’s where precision fermentation comes in as a game-changer for the food industry. 🍽️ It takes significantly fewer resources to raise microorganisms in a fermentation tank than to raise livestock on a farm. 🌍 Less water, less land, and fewer greenhouse gas emissions are all part of the equation when it comes to producing these proteins sustainably. By using microorganisms to produce dairy proteins identical to those found in cow’s milk, precision fermentation offers a solution that satisfies both nutritional needs and environmental concerns. These proteins contain a complete amino acid profile — something that plant-based alternatives often lack. 💪 As we witness the food industry adapting to a changing world, precision fermentation is set to play a central role. The rise of high-protein diets and the evolving consumer demand for healthier, more sustainable options signal that we’re entering a new era — one where innovation like precision fermentation is key to feeding the future. 🌱💡 #HighProtein #PrecisionFermentation #FoodTech #Innovation

Healthy profits? Your regular reminder that profiting off farmers, field workers and using profits to legitimize food policy is how we got here in the first place. We don’t need healthy profits, we need healthy people, healthy land and to hold corporations, bad government actors and lobbyist accountable.
