Navy Needs $$$ and Leadership Congress has complicated budgeting, but the White House and the Secretary of Defense have been less than supportive either in growing the Navy. The call for 3-5% above inflation growth in Navy’s budget is not a new call and a minimum to consider. Clearer goals are needed beyond a fleet of 381 warships sometime next decade. What is realistic before 2027? What will it take? Who is responsible for achieving that goal? The recent Chief of Naval Operations Navigation Plan is good, but without more forceful leadership little will change, and Navy’s fleet will continue the decades running slow slip into irrelevance. https://lnkd.in/eaEBW_FE

Celebrating Armed Forces Day today, the day to honor all who serve or have served in the United States branches of the Department of Defense, both active-duty and former, in the reserves, National Guard or on active duty. Armed Forces Day was created on August 31, 1949, by Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson to replace separate Army, Navy and Air Force commemoration Days, following the Armed Forces’ unification under one Department of Defense by President Harry S. Truman, when he signed the National Security Act into law on July 26, 1947. OF NOTE: While the U.S. Coast Guard does not technically fall under the Department of Defense when not at war, the National Security Act of 1947 was very specific about the term “Armed Forces” in the definitions, which reads, “The term ‘Armed Forces’ means the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.” We salute and honor all who serve and have served among our current and former Shannon & Wilson staff, our subcontractors and other teaming partners, and of course, all of our Department of Defense and U.S. Coast Guard clients. #ArmedForcesDay #DepartmentOfDefense #MilitaryAppreciation #USMilitary #Veterans #NationalGuard #CoastGuard #MilitaryHistory #HonorOurTroops #usarmy #usnavy #usmarines

New command opportunities are now available to Navy information warfare officers, according to service leaders. In a message released to the MyNavyHR website recently, Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro indicted that IW officers will transition from restricted line officers to line officers performing information warfare duties. The move means that these service members are now eligible for “command for sea,” Vice Adm. Mike Vernazza, commander of Naval Information Forces, which is responsible for training and providing information forces to the fleet, said in a statement. https://hubs.li/Q030VBV90

This is critical engagement that needs to happen to connect policymakers and investors together ... and to see projects that can enhance the industrial base both for national security needs but also to develop products for the consumer markets. Also important to stress how the stability in which business thrives rests on effective military deterrents.
Capital Park Partners had a wonderful set of engagements with members of the California congressional delegation discussing the intersection of the defense industrial base, operating forces, and national security that happens at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Commander, Naval Air Force, Pacific, NAVWAR, and the dozens of other San Diego area military bases. It's clear that the future deterrence is heavily reliant on minimizing the chance of miscalculation, and that means a real time, accurate common operational picture is the foundation for our operating forces. #cjadc2 #indopacific #capitalparkpartners
