Buckle Up for the Future: Hyundai vehicles now available on Amazon but how serious are they in entering the auto sector? In a move that's set to reshape the automotive industry, Hyundai and Amazon have announced a pioneering partnership that will allow shoppers to purchase new Hyundai vehicles directly through the Amazon platform. The implications are both exciting and complex. While the initial excitement may stem from the ability to simply "add a car to your cart," the reality is more nuanced. The partnership will initially launch in a limited pilot program, with 18 Hyundai dealerships across five states participating. This allows Amazon to honor existing franchise laws while providing shoppers with a streamlined digital experience. Customers will be able to browse Hyundai's current inventory, select their desired model and features, and even choose financing or leasing options, all within the Amazon ecosystem. However, the final transaction, paperwork, and vehicle delivery will still be handled by the local participating dealership. This arrangement is designed to balance the convenience of online shopping with the expertise and personal service that dealerships can provide. Hyundai and Amazon have emphasized that the pilot program will focus on gathering feedback and learning from early adopters before potentially expanding the offering to other automakers. Another potential challenge is the willingness of auto dealers to fully embrace the partnership. While it could bring more foot traffic to their showrooms, dealers may also be hesitant to cede some control over the sales process and the opportunity to form direct relationships with buyers. Will dealers be prepared to pay the standard Amazon selling referral fee of 8% - 15%? Definitely one to watch but like Google auto adverts, I suspect this will not upend the industry just yet. #marketplaces #cars #autos #ecommerce https://buff.ly/3RVnMOm.

It's fascinating to see HOW you buy something becoming a competitive advantage, rather than WHAT you buy. Why is Amazon's new vehicle marketplace such an appealing offering? Because it eliminates the typical dealership nonsense—like upselling nitrogen-filled tires and overpriced paint protection. I played around in the experience a few times, and it’s refreshingly straightforward and clean. Bravo, team. Assuming dealerships don’t fumble the fulfillment, this could be a big win, especially as more OEMs come on board. One aspect I love is how it reminds me of The Domino’s progress tracker. That simple bar lets you see where you are in the process, shows what’s left to complete, and even allows you to go back and make changes. Functional AND empowering. Amazon's version of this is a nice addition to car-buying. However, one thing missing—and this applies to Amazon as a whole—is the ability to compare. Yea yea, comparison features are often geared toward shoppers earlier in the process, but even at point of purchase, a side-by-side view of relative features / benefits vs The Competition could provide that nudge consumers need to move forward. Would love to see Amazon pioneer a new approach to product comparison. Automotive, with its complex feature sets and options, might just be the ideal place to start.

Shoppers will be able to search for available vehicles from participating dealers by model, trim, color, and features. Notably, customers will also be able to secure financing and e-sign paperwork via the Amazon Autos site. Once the payment is finalized, customers can schedule when to pick up their vehicle from that dealership. #amazon #ecommerce #carsales #cars #dealerships #tech #news https://lnkd.in/g5FhpkZS

I know Kia were trialing this. The true power of internet retailing is likely to be tested to breaking point here. Who buys a car without driving it first? I was close with the EX30. Happily I didn't quite have what I call 'screw it' available on the c/card or I just might have. Will we see cars now being sold on the basis of my theorem, the 'Clarkson said so'? Undoubtedly yes. Watch Amazon and see how this process unfolds. Puts the OEMs in a tricky place. Where are we for servicing? So much to digest here. My brain is full. But there will be casualties. Who what where and when is where there is money to be made. Need to consider the implications for the used car market too, which already on Amazon might see a big boost?
