It is really going to be interesting to see how this goes. I mean could govt benefit from simplification, dignification, self-service and less bureaucracy - 100%. Can taxpayers save money - excellent. How is this going to play out in reality - difficult to see that a X/twitter type cutting spree (75% gone) is going to go down with the public, public service and people who need to get elected. Maybe it's what people voted for??? interesting times ahead.

The great "X-odus" is here. More than 1 million users have joined Bluesky since the US election, leaving Elon Musk’s X amid concerns over misinformation and rising toxicity. Even Taylor Swift’s fans, the Swifties, are finding a new platform to call home. So, what’s making Bluesky the new go-to for social media? 1️⃣ Custom Feeds – You choose what you see. News, cat photos, or Swiftie fan theories—your feed, your rules. 2️⃣ Anti-Troll Features – Detach your posts from unwanted interactions and keep the negativity at bay. 3️⃣ Decentralized & Moderated – Bluesky is built for a safer, smarter social experience. Is this the future of social media? Or are we too tired for one more platform? Would you make the switch to Bluesky?

It was so great to chat with Ticker's Ahron Young as part of their live U.S. election coverage, even if it was to discuss Elon Musk spreading misleading claims via X. Here's what we covered: 🔺 Musk's misleading election claims on X have hit 2 billion views this year. 🔺 87 posts fact-checked as misleading, reaching his 203 million followers. 🔺 X's Community Notes failing to correct 74% of misleading posts. 🔺 Misinformation spreading beyond X to Telegram and Reddit like wildfire. 🔺 Politicians threatening social media regulation while simultaneously leveraging platforms like TikTok. 🔺 Social media platforms now wielding more influence over politics than politicians over platforms. #DigitalDemocracy #SocialMediaInfluence #ElectionIntegrity #TechPolitics University of the Sunshine Coast Dharana Digital

Insightful take, Kevin! Freedom of speech is indeed about allowing diverse ideas to flourish, even if some seem outlandish. Just as the market tests and filters ideas in real-time, investors must sift through economic trends and global shifts to find value and protect their portfolios. Curious how today’s economic “stress tests,” like inflation, Fed rate moves, and global dynamics, impact your investments? Check out our latest article, where we dive into the key forces shaping the financial landscape: https://lnkd.in/g3rifAu5 📉 #investing #economy #markets
What Elon did by buying X/Twitter is keep alive the concept of free speech. The cost of freedom of speech is the 2.5% lunatic fringe. The moment you try to shut it down, you’re moving away from the concept of freedom of speech. Many ideas get tested and many get thrown out. It’s the essence of democracy. When you try to change that, the system corrects itself.

Bluesky, a new up-and-coming social media platform recently increased its user base by 1.25 million. It openly describes itself as a competitor to X and the internet witnessed a mass migration from X to Bluesky following the U.S. elections. So much so, that Bluesky was trending on X for a while. That was pretty cool to watch though! This platform has become a trending alternative, offering a fresh social media environment. And it appeals differently to a public who is increasingly wary of centralised control and ideological bias. When Twitter was bought by Elon Musk back in 2022, it became a tool to mirror the political language he believed in. Musk was accused of amplifying his posts and suspending accounts that voiced opposing political views. And this is not something to simply gloss over, because this fellow became 60-billion dollars richer when Trump won. Now, with Musk co-chairing a government efficiency initiative, many users are questioning the role of “X” as a platform for free speech v/s a megaphone for personal influence. See, the thing about people, the Internet, and people on the Internet is that they get obsessively mad. Which in my (unpopular?) opinion is a pretty impressive thing. If they weren't mad, we wouldn't have been able to see the mass shift from X to Bluesky. For any new-age media (maybe it's too late for traditional media?), we cannot allow people with power to obtain any control over what news we consume. The media must remain neutral. And the people must remain angry! Do you know why this anger is more important than we think it is? When platforms become vehicles for ideological expression, they can sway public opinion in profound ways, impacting everything from elections to public sentiment.

Billionaire Elon Musk's social media platform X has been cleared by Brazil's Supreme Court to resume services in the South American country after it had complied with the given orders and paid the imposed fine. The platform, formerly known as Twitter, now has settled R$28.6 million or $5.2 million as fines, blocked profiles that disseminated false information, and appointed a legal representative in Brazil, as required by Brazilian law. In his decision to lift the month-long ban, Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the authorization is for the immediate return of X's activities in the country. Justice determined that the National Telecommunications Agency, i.e., Anatel, take steps to resume the platform's service. Responding to the court order, X's Global Government Affairs team in a post said, "X is proud to return to Brazil. Giving tens of millions of Brazilians access to our indispensable platform was paramount throughout this entire process. We will continue to defend freedom of speech, within the boundaries of the law, everywhere we operate." #X #ElonMusk #ElonMuskX #SocialMedia #Microblogging #Brazil #BrazilBansX #Twitter #Anatel #communication

Bluesky has taken the lead in the U.S. Apple App Store, attracting thousands of new users amid growing frustration with Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter). As the U.S. presidential election continues to stir political discourse, many users are shifting to Bluesky, a platform they see as offering a more balanced alternative. The app’s user base has more than doubled in the past 90 days, reaching over 15 million users. Last week alone, more than a million new sign-ups occurred, showcasing Bluesky’s increasing appeal, especially among high-profile journalists and major news outlets, such as Charlie Warzel of the Atlantic and Mara Gay from the New York Times. Despite these gains, X has seen a notable drop in users, with over 115,000 U.S. accounts deactivated on the day after the election. Though traffic to X spiked around the time of the election, its user engagement remains sluggish, hinting at a possible long-term decline. Musk's controversial actions, such as his endorsement of former President Donald Trump and the creation of a new "Department of Government Efficiency" with conservative figures like Vivek Ramaswamy, have positioned X as a platform increasingly aligned with right-wing interests, sparking further discontent among users. As Bluesky continues to gain traction, it remains to be seen if its rise marks a fleeting trend or a genuine threat to X’s dominance in the social media space. The ongoing shifts in user behavior could potentially reshape the landscape of digital platforms moving forward. “Brazil’s power struggle with Elon Musk over censorship on X (formerly Twitter) escalated this week, with the country’s Supreme Court upholding a ban on the platform. 40 million Brazilians lost access to the site, which had come under fire for allowing election deniers to incite an insurrection—sound familiar? Erin and Max take a look at other countries that have enacted similar social media bans, including Sri Lanka, Turkey and India. Does it stop the violence? Do tech companies actually care about free speech there? And what does it mean for the world if more governments follow Brazil’s lead and temporarily ban social platforms to pressure companies into compliance? Can governments really be trusted to regulate our online interactions? Find out on this week’s ‘How We Got Here.’” https://lnkd.in/eJHB-qe5
