Yep…being on these Best-Of lists surely does add to Greenville’s rapid growth, but it also adds equity for property owners in the form of demand-increased property value. It’s a double edged sword (more traffic & higher real estate prices in some areas, etc..), but ultimately, it’s a good thing. The alternative would be a flat or declining market, which comes with real baggage.
Love it or hate it, Greenville has been recognized (again) as one of the best places to live in the US, this time coming in at #4 in US News and World Report, behind Naples, Boise, and Colorado Springs. Interestingly, our neighbors in Charlotte came in at 5. Many will say that we're becoming too crowded and our roads can't handle the traffic (both of which may be true), but we also need to remember that a rising tide lifts all boats, and Greenville's popularity is ushering in a boom in the surrounding markets as well. Small towns that were sleepy and, in many cases, dilapidated just a few years ago are now bustling with vibrant restaurants and small businesses. Look no further than case studies such as Greer, Simpsonville, Fountain Inn, and Woodruff.

Some of you would have seen news this morning that the outdoor dining hours at the Old Fitz were being scaled back. The Lord Mayor and Councillors don't assess and determine individual DAs, but when this outcome came to my attention I asked staff to expedite a review and work productively with the Old Fitz to resolve the matter. I’m advised there were some compliance issues, hence the Council officers’ initial recommendation. But I’m sure it’s not beyond us all to work this out. Staff have already re-exhibited the Old Fitz’s application to trade outdoor 11.00am-10.00pm, Monday to Sunday. That application is live online and open for community feedback. By law that exhibition will run 10 working days. In the wake of the Covid pandemic, we wanted to do everything we could to help businesses get back on their feet while bringing communities together and that's why we waived all fees and fast-tracked road conversion applications, helping more than 700 businesses operate out in our public spaces. The Old Fitz is one location where we have even extended the footpath into the road space to make for a larger and more pleasant space. I'm proud of the work we've done to support outdoor dining and cut red tape to make it easier for businesses to trade later. We award $35 million in grants to support culture and the night time economy each year. That’s why we want to make sure we get this decision right. And why we work tirelessly to balance the needs of local businesses and the broader community. It’s wonderful to see people out on the streets, connecting with each other and enjoying their neighbourhood while supporting local businesses. Sydney deserves a night life we can all be proud of, and that’s what we’ve been working towards since the lockouts and lockdowns.

Christmas Markets by rail. Special £2 rail fares offered by Northern. Northern have worked with tourism bosses in #Harrogate and #Skipton to create a £2 rail fare [like the £2 bus fare] for those visiting the Christmas markets. #Barnsley has a Christmas Market at the Glassworks but I am not hearing that there will be a similar promotion. Northern was targeting less crowded markets in towns for the promotion and so perhaps there is still time for officers at Travel South Yorkshire, South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority or Barnsley Council to do a deal, as Barnsley's rail station is really close to the #Glassworks. The promotion is here: 👇 https://lnkd.in/esuS2Gxp The details of Barnsley's Christmas market is here: 👇 https://lnkd.in/ej_JBRHW Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce Carrie Sudbury Sarah Norman #️⃣ Barnsleyisbrill #christmas #christmasmarket #northernrail #barnsleytransport #barnsleybusiness #barnsleymarket

The Inner West of Annandale is facing a classic problem of many Sydney suburbs - lack of density to accommodate the next generation and lack of downsizing options for the existing population and "essential workers" looking for easy access to their jobs with excellent public transport options. Unfortunately, Annandale has priced out the more significant majority of the younger generations, with the median price for a single detached dwelling of $2.2m and a median price of $1.2m for a unit demographic that will appreciate the excellent cafes in the area. As a family that once owned 10-row dwellings in Annandale for decades, we had a family policy of careful tenant selection and rentals up to 20% below market rates. This limited maintenance costs and reduced vacancy factors as tenants treated these dwellings as long-term residences. We only sold them because a realignment was necessary in the family estate. Interestingly, a large percentage of the population of Annandale are "Baby Boomers" stranded in this suburb because of the lack of affordable residential-grade midrise apartments that allow them to sell their family home in a suburb they love and have a "nest egg" amount of funds for their future security. As a place maker with a "Social Responsibility," we have been doing "Heritage Overlays" in our previous inner-city high-quality medium and midrise apartments in the City of Adelaide and North Adelaide over the last 50 years before the term Heritage Overlays was invented. We paid particular attention to the environs around the projects with extensive landscaping and always chose leading architects. #Sydney #AffordableHousing #HeritageOverlays #SocialResponsibility
