Let's take a maritime trip down memory lane 🛳 Aalborg's maritime history dates back more than 550 years when the first shipyard was established in the city. Over the centuries, shipbuilding became the backbone of the local Aalborg economy, with several shipyards and related industries rising along the waterfront. At one point the shipyard employed more than 3.000 citizens in Aalborg. And almost 230 ships and other new buildings were built during the yard's lifetime. Though the shipyard closed back in 1988, leading companies have emerged from the remains. Today the maritime industry in Aalborg includes ship supply, boiler production, marine pump manufacturing, ballast water management systems, automation software, real-time tracking solutions, satellite navigation and much more. 📷 Aalborg Stadsarkiv

Vancouver recently celebrated the introduction of its first battery electric tugs, ElectRA 2300-SX, designed and built by Turkey's Sanmar Shipyards and owned by SAAM Towage Canada. These tugs align with the Port of Vancouver’s sustainability goals and SAAM Towage’s commitment to decarbonized harbour operations. The tugs are designed for emissions-free ship-docking in tight spaces and have already secured a towage services contract at Neptune terminals in Vancouver due to their eco-friendly features. Their exceptional manoeuvrability is a result of extensive design efforts, including live trials to meet the preferences of SAAM Towage Canada’s crews and a proprietary tool for predicting performance. The success of the project has led to the order of a new ElectRA 2500-SX design for Chile, expected to be delivered in 2025, marking a new level of customization for tug performance. The tugs operate on an electric propulsion system with fast charging times, reducing emissions significantly compared to diesel tugs, while providing fine control of thrust at low speeds. The clean and quiet accommodations above deck enhance the crew's comfort. Sanmar Shipyards is constructing a third tug for their fleet, showcasing the increasing popularity of these compact battery electric tugs. #MarinerNews #MaritimeIndustry #ShippingNews #Shipping #Maritime
