On Monday 10th, students from the Lauro Ikastola visited us at Ingemat, S.L. as part of their #Laurolan program. They were accompanied on the visit by Iratxe Gurruchaga Azpeitia , Financial and HR Manager, Maitane Amundarain Urrutia, Project Manager and Eneko Laforga, responsible for the electrical project. They showed them some details of projects that we are carrying out right now in Ingemat. For Ingemat, S.L. is important and very good news that women are more and more present in engineering, science, technologies and so on. El título de este trabajo de investigación es "Assessing the Operation and Economic Feasibility of Photovoltaic plants with Batteries and Their Participation in the Reserve Market: A Case Study in Chile".

With the support of our valuable allies, the Engineering Research Institute - In³ - of the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia and BERSTIC, we have managed to positively impact more than 3,000 people from our different stakeholders in Digital Transformation projects! We highlight the creation of 2 Digital Twins in Territory: one in La Paz, Manaure (La Guajira) and the other in the La Suiza Research Centre of Agrosavia, Rionegro (Santander) both in Colombia. We continue to work together to generate significant change in industry, government, communities and academia with international cooperation! 💻 As part of the actions to benefit the communities, a donation of technological equipment and supplies for Wayuu indigenous weavings was made by the last BERSTIC International Congress, which you can see in the following video: https://lnkd.in/gdaj-4dq If you want to learn more we invite you to the event "Building a Sustainable & Inclusive Future of Colombia Based on Engineering Business Opportunities for Hydrogen Industry" funded by the Awardee Excellence Community of the Royal Academy of Engineering, that will take place in La Guajira with broadcast on YouTube for which you can pre-register through the following link: https://lnkd.in/eQgUxt8K It should be noted that these activities are part of the work plan for the promotion of Science Diplomacy presented by Prof. Dr. Fernando Colmenares to Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación, Call No. 928 of 2022, identified with the code No 9259, and to the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia with the project number: INV3494. We also thank the CELISE_project, funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions call and registered under the number is 101007733. Also the project "Towards a sustainable and inclusive Colombia: engineering business opportunities based on science, technology and innovation", funded by the UK Royal Academy of Engineering, for supporting these events. To Ministerio de Tecnologías de la Información y las Comunicaciones, Ministerio de Minas y Energía, UPME Oficial (Unidad de Planeación Minero-Energética), and Departamento Nacional de Planeación (Departamento Nacional de Planeación) for supporting the positive impact on the territories. #DigitalTwins #Innovation #BERSTIC

NWO (Dutch Research Council) shines the spotlight on the societal impact of research proposals "When submitting their research proposal, researchers must reflect on the possible consequences of their research, both desirable and undesired. NWO will also look more critically at its own collaborations with third parties. An assessment framework has been drawn up for this purpose to assess research collaborations. NWO takes these steps to carry out the best research with the greatest contribution to science and society." (Own translation from Dutch) We welcome NWO´s move. Recently, Scientists for Future Netherlands has engaged with NWO about their policy regarding academic collaborations with fossil companies. This led to several publications, first by Guus Dix, Klaas Landsman and Roderik Van De Wal in Trouw: https://lnkd.in/es7w57qM This newspaper replied by getting their philosophical team onto the topic: https://lnkd.in/exF7FG8n https://lnkd.in/emzPz7JM #climatecrisis #researchintegrity #gsp

This was a great session focused on future of the industry that will need to construct one whole city of Paris of building floors every week to get to the additional 230bn m2 of floors needed worldwide between 2020 and 2060, according to the UN. I explained how floor vibration serviceability became the governing design criterion of modern lightweight floors as a simple consequence of the Newton’s 2nd Law: f=m*a, whereby the same dynamic force ‘f’ and smaller mass ‘m’ will always lead to greater acceleration ‘a’ and vibration prone floors. I then also explained the key concept of CALMFLOOR by FSD Active Ltd, a novel and the only commercially available 67kg autonomous mechatronics device that is sensing and controlling floor resonant vibration. It does this by a small damping force replacing mass of tens to hundreds of tonnes of construction materials. I think that has to be the future of floor vibration serviceability: smart technologies reducing rapidly material consumption (about 60% of a typical multi-storey building mass is in floors) and saving embodied carbon.

“Who will actually do the jobs tomorrow?” This question is the focus of this year's first German Chamber of Industry and Commerce Day – and it is also a question that we are working on at ALTANA. As a specialty chemicals company, we work on highly innovative solutions. That requires a lot of expertise and qualified employees. At the same time, we face massive changes in the way we work. Processes become more and more digital. Therefore, we need specialists with digital expertise – experts who are in demand in all sectors. At a time when technological advances and demographic changes are rapidly reshaping the work environment, we need to ask ourselves how we as a company can address these challenges. At ALTANA AG, we firmly believe that the key to answering this question lies in developing and investing in our employees. Training and upskilling our workforce is a top priority for us, as this is the only way to ensure that we can continue to meet the demands of the future market. We are committed to developing talents and creating a framework in which lifelong learning is not only possible, but a necessity. However, it is crucial in this context that we do not only invest in the qualifications of our existing employees. We also have to engage with future employees. As CEO of ALTANA, I know from my own experience which solutions work for the STEM sector, for example – start early and promote sustainably: We get children excited about science at the "Haus der kleinen Forscher" (Little Scientists' House; Stiftung Kinder forschen), support students with our special chemistry award at JUGEND GRÜNDET and enable young professionals in our company to develop their talents by providing an open culture of innovation and start-up-like structures! So let's work together to secure qualified employees for the future of Europe as a top location for industry! What are your ideas? #GemeinsamFachkräfteSichern #IHK #WeAreALTANA DIHK | IHK-Tag
