New European Bauhaus cases Together with Danish Industry, we have gathered examples of building projects and solutions that integrate inclusion, sustainability, and aesthetics. Danish Industry is an official New European Bauhaus partner and follows the work closely, including being a partner in the Desire initiative (Designing the Irresistible Circular Society). As part of this, Danish Industry and State of Green are collaborating on promoting and highlighting inspiring cases, which speak to the vision of a multidisciplinary transformation of a green and more sustainable society. Our new paper "Navigating Problematic Bauhaus Inheritances: Critiques, Implications, and Questions from the Bauhaus of the Seas NEB Lighthouse" on the Bauhaus of the Seas, we analyze the critiques of the original Bauhaus and the New European Bauhaus (NEB) to understand the challenges that the NEB lighthouse project inherits by adhering to the Bauhaus vision and name. We unveil the problematic dynamics of Eurocentric modernity's myths of universalism and better living through technology and on the Bauhaus's and NEB's position in global power structures. Instead of assuming a tabula rasa approach and replicating problematic structures unknowingly, we bring these three aspects to BoSS to find questions as orientation points to help steer away from problematic aspects inherited by reanimating the Bauhaus name and its legacy. https://lnkd.in/dKGxkwuH

https://lnkd.in/g9t5gHDK As of today, the Commission is opening applications for two awards celebrating innovation and creativity inspired by the New European Bauhaus (NEB): the fifth edition of the New European Bauhaus Prizes and the new NEB Boost for Small Municipalities. Awarding beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive projects, the NEB Prizes and the NEB Boost have different objectives and target audiences: The NEB Prizes will honour outstanding projects and ideas from individuals, teams, and organisations. The NEB Boost for Small Municipalities will support smaller local governments in implementing transformative projects with a strong community engagement. Visionaries, creatives, and changemakers from across Europe and beyond are invited to submit innovative projects and ideas that reshape the way we live and interact with our environment. President Ursula von der Leyen said: “Affordable housing solutions are one of the most urgent challenges of our time and this year's edition of the New European Bauhaus Prizes shines a special spotlight on this pressing issue. But also on many other fields the New European Bauhaus shows the way forward. Through community engagement, through participation of citizens and the full creativity of local initiatives, the New European Bauhaus demonstrates that small but smart efforts can create meaningful, lasting change.” Five years of sustainability, aesthetics and inclusion with the NEB Prizes After over 5,000 applications received in total for the past editions, the New European Bauhaus Prizes will this year award 22 exemplary innovative projects and concepts that represent sustainability, aesthetics, and inclusiveness. This year, the 2025 Prizes edition will have a special focus on housing: the NEB “Affordable housing prizes”. In our human quest for a perfectly tailored daily life, we risk losing the spontaneity and unpredictability that make life truly interesting. Bridging Worlds invites the viewer to adopt a more fluid and adaptive approach to existence: by letting go of the need for control and measurement, we can open ourselves to a world rich with serendipity, complexity, and diversity. Thirty-five years ago, the Berlin Wall—a symbol of division and repression—came down, marking a historic victory for freedom. For those of us who remember it, the Wall’s fall remains etched in memory, symbolizing a powerful shift toward unity and hope. Today, as we digitize the few remnants of this divisive structure, the goal extends beyond preserving concrete slabs; we are capturing the human stories they hold. By digitally archiving tales of separation, struggles for freedom, and tragic loss, we are creating a "memory twin," not just a "digital twin," of this monument. The Berlin Wall was more than a barrier; it represented a painful era for countless families divided by ideology and geography. By preserving the stories and context alongside the physical Wall, we are crafting an immersive legacy that ensures future generations understand not only the Wall’s history but its profound human impact. This approach emphasizes that cultural heritage is as much about shared experiences as it is about physical preservation. EXPO REAL (Messe München) 2024 is fast approaching! Among many exciting events, we’ll be participating in the panel discussion “City for People: How to Improve Quality of Life in Urban Spaces,” organized by Invest in Lodz (Central Poland). As media patrons of the event, we are thrilled to announce that the discussion will be moderated by none other than Anna Korólczyk-Lewandowska! The panelists include Jacek Jaśkowiak, president of Poznań; Adam Pustelnik, deputy mayor of Łódź; Maciej Fijalkowski, Director of the European Funds and Economic Development Department at the City of Warsaw; and Dr. Michał Sobczak, representative of Łódzka Specjalna Strefa Ekonomiczna. The discussion will center on exchanging insights on building livable cities. Leaders from Poland's major cities will tackle challenges in urban space management and highlight successful revitalization initiatives. From 12-14 May 2024, the first Executive Conference of the NEBoD network will take place at the Hochschule für Gestaltung HfG Ulm, Germany under the title Danube Future Works. The New European Bauhaus on the Danube (NEBoD) focuses on promoting a new development approach in the Danube region considering the green and just transition promoted by the EU.  The aim of the conference is to ask in an interdisciplinary group how sustainable future development in urban and rural areas can be re-envisioned and realistically implemented. The conference - by invitation only - is organised as an active format. In addition to prominent keynote speeches, the 80-100 invited participants will work on specific case studies in four workshops, focusing on urban and regional development challenges in the Danube region. These will be interspersed with short impulses on topics such as green finance, new governance, planning tools and arts & culture. I am honoured to have been invited, as EDF expert and member of the EDF expert groups on built environment and transport, to participate in the work and speaking on Accessibility and usability for All at an urban scale. https://lnkd.in/dgg3uGNH
