We argue that the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed yet another important socio-political dynamic that can best be captured by the concept of a quandemic – a portmanteau of “quantification” and “pandemic”. In conversation with ISPOR poster author: Sofie Czarnota-Bojarski Our Senior Associate, Sofie Czarnota-Bojarski, delves into the intricacies of her co-authored research poster titled "Cost-Effectiveness of apixaban Compared to warfarin, dabigatran and rivaroxaban in Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation: Results for High-Risk Patient Subgroups Based on the Aristophanes Real-World Evidence Study" featured at #ISPOR2024. This research aims to estimate the cost-effectiveness of apixaban versus rivaroxaban, dabigatran and warfarin in high-risk non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) subpopulations from a UK perspective over a lifetime horizon using data from ARISTOPHANES. We invite you to join Sofie in a detailed exploration of the research objectives, key data drivers, and conclusions drawn from this study. During a session today at ISPOR—The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research annual meeting, the Stratevi team presented results from the first-ever cost-effectiveness study of a #FactorXI inhibitor. The objective of this economic analysis was to explore the potential cost-effectiveness of #abelacimab, using the results from the #AZALEA-TIMI 71 study that were presented during a late-breaking session at the 2023 American Heart Association Scientific Sessions. The analysis demonstrated that abelacimab, if approved, could offer significant cost savings as compared to a current standard of care anticoagulant. #ISPORAnnual #ISPOR24

📉 One Plus One Makes Less than Two? Silvia Balia and Rinaldo Brau from the University of Cagliari and CRENoS examine how healthcare consolidations may inadvertently impact the health outcomes of the population and presented the results during the #63rdERSAConference. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design with detailed mortality and population data from 2002 to 2018, the study analyzes mortality trends before and after LHA consolidations. 🔍Key Findings: While mortality initially declined slightly in the first year post-reform, a sustained increase was observed from the fourth year onward, a signal that cost-cutting may lead to unintended health impacts. Particularly concerning was the disparity in effects between core and peripheral municipalities, as well as between smaller and larger communities. Working-age individuals and those affected by circulatory system diseases were disproportionately impacted.
