I just returned from the impactful Global Baobab Congress in London, organized by the African Baobab Alliance (ABA) where I am a board member. This event was an eye-opening experience, showcasing the vast potential of baobab, often celebrated as "The Tree of Life." The resilience and versatility of the baobab reflect the entrepreneurial spirit necessary for thriving in challenging environments. It’s astounding how this remarkable tree can provide sustenance and support in arid conditions, making it a symbol of life and opportunity in harsh landscapes. Our strategic objectives at the African Baobab Alliance are designed to harness the full potential of the baobab industry. We aim to promote industry growth by fostering an environment where the baobab can flourish sustainably, ensuring that every link in the value chain, from harvesters to consumers, benefits from this growth. Enhancing competitiveness is also crucial, achieved through the adoption of innovative practices and rigorous standards that guarantee top quality and sustainability. Additionally, we are focused on expanding the market by educating potential consumers on the remarkable benefits and versatile uses of baobab products, aiming to increase demand both locally and globally. These efforts are geared towards creating a robust industry that contributes significantly to the socioeconomic development of communities across Africa. As we advance, I ask myself some critical questions. 1. How can we ensure that the benefits of industry growth are enjoyed by baobab harvesters throughout Africa? 2. What steps are necessary to prepare our communities for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), emphasizing the shift from raw materials to finished goods? 3. What limitations must we address to encourage the adoption of new practices that can drive economic viability and sustainability? The journey ahead for the baobab industry is filled with immense opportunities for innovation and growth. Our goal is not merely to ensure that this industry thrives, but to strategically position it to play a pivotal role in the socioeconomic development of our communities. A practical and effective starting point for communities rich in baobab is to form cooperatives. This approach can empower local stakeholders by integrating them more fully into the value chain, fostering collective success. #Baobab #Sustainability #Innovation #AfCFTA #Entrepreneurship #GlobalBaobabConference #SocioeconomicGrowth #Cooperatives #CommunityDevelopment #unrooted #AfricanBaobabAlliance

After an extensive global search, the Board of The ONE Campaign has named Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli as its President and CEO. Ndidi brings more than 25 years of international development experience, including deep expertise in agriculture and nutrition, social innovation, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, and youth development in Africa. ONE’s co-founder Bono said: “ONE could not be getting a better present for its 20th birthday than Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli taking charge as its next President and CEO. An organization that focuses on Africa should be led by an African, that’s always been our dream, and Ndidi is the right person to take ONE into the future. She’s multilingual in the broadest sense; it’s not just languages she speaks across, but geographies and sectors too. She’s an entrepreneur and a policy wonk, an activist and a business leader who knows governments and business need to work together if we’re going to solve the biggest challenges facing our planet. I can’t wait to see what she and ONE’s brilliant policy wonks and political arm twisters are able to accomplish. In a world battling multiple fires, figuratively and literally, we need them now more than ever.” Find the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/g23NYTqy John Strackhouse Bethany George Rachel J. Every year a business owner is presented with new needs from the business/company and with a growing economy comes new challenges and opportunities to take up. An author once said, 'The universe rewards the brave' but how much braveity does an entrepreneur need to stand strong in business and remain competitive through the high and low tides. #JiinueGrowthProgram a program by Mastercard Foundation and 7 partners has been ongoing to support businesses countrywide to ensure we build the business, owners, and growing communities. A typical Kenyan statement is that 'We need money to make money' but is money all we need and does money without a strategy lead to growth and success? The 5-year program aims to support you and I with accessing affordable financing for business and by providing tailored support to SMEs. #JiimarishenaJiinue #KEPSA #JiinueGrowthProgram #SMEs
