Get ready for another presentation highlight! We are thrilled to announce that Chloe Latham Sikes, Ph.D. will join us at the TADOHE Summer Summit. She will lead an afternoon session titled "Sharing Stories of Impact – A Workshop for Diverse Stakeholders to Discuss Changes to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Policy and Practices." You won't want to miss this crucial conversation: https://lnkd.in/ghF-KaQc. Texas’ new ban on diversity, equity, and inclusion offices in higher education (SB 17, 88R) came on the heels of new censorship laws in K-12 education. Diverse stakeholders across K-12, higher education, legal, and research sectors came together during debates on SB 17 to voice concern about the anticipated negative impacts, especially to student life, faculty experiences, and research and scholarship related to race and gender. Early changes to postsecondary diversity, equity, and inclusion offices and campus practices began even before the state legislative session last year, and have only picked up speed since its passage. This interactive workshop invites attendees to discuss the new law, its implications for higher education and incoming students’ opportunities and success, and to share stories about how it impacts their work and/or institutions. #TADOHESummerSummit #TADOHE24 #conference #Texas #HigherEducation #Education #summit #diversity #equity #inclusion

Yes! Winter break is an excellent time to find REUs (my favorite database is Pathways To Science) and to work on those personal statements! You can find great advice on writing these statements on the CDA REU webpage (see original post below) or the MICRO-CCS REU webpage: https://lnkd.in/esDDM6Sm And, don't forget to give your faculty plenty of time to write those letters of recommendation -- ask early and send reminders!
ATTN: #Undergrads interested in gaining hands-on research experience over the summer! Use the end of 2024 to prepare for 2025. While you are taking a break from classes, it's a great time to work on your personal statement and REU applications. The deadline to apply for the CDA REU program is February 17, 2025. ℹ️ More details here: https://lnkd.in/g8CcQGCG

“Ignoring race will not equalize a society that is racially unequal. What was true in the 1860s, and again in 1954, is true today: Equality requires acknowledgment of inequality.” This week’s experience as an Equal Justice America Fellow with the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law reminds me of Justice Sotomayors’ impactful dissent in SFFA v. Harvard/UNC. I have had the opportunity to further engage across the Public Policy Project’s portfolio and contribute to our policy initiatives with the Educational Opportunities Project. It has been an insightful experience to learn more about the impact, and limitations, of the SFFA decision from civil rights litigators and federal policy experts. The decision has since emboldened attacks against diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. As a Floridian, I have witnessed bad actors attempt to extend SFFA to support anti-DEI attacks. I am grateful for an opportunity to offer legal analysis of Congress’ constitutional authority to thwart the anti-DEI threats and summarize current legislative proposals seeking to curb these threats against a more just society. Furthermore, it has been a rewarding experience to be introduced to litigators and principal leaders within civil rights organizations. Through several meetings, I have learned about the development of current key issues and successful career paths into civil rights policy and impact litigation. The wisdom from civil rights litigators and policy counsel has been priceless. I have applied their insight and race equity principles to my current Federal Courts, Legislative Negotiations, and International Law Drafting studies. As I approach my internship's end, I reflect on how transformative my experience with the Lawyers’ Committee has been. #EJAFellowUpdate This picture depicts David Hinojosa, the Lawyers’ Committee Director of Educational Opportunities project, arguing before the Supreme Court during SFFA v. With great pleasure, we announce yet another remarkable achievement for JGU. The release of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024 (in which JGU ranked 72nd globally for Law and Legal Studies) serves as a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence in education. From its inception in 2009, Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) has undergone a profound transformation. From its modest beginnings with a mere 21 faculty members and 112 students, it has evolved into a formidable institution with over 551 faculty members and a student body exceeding 5,000 individuals. This exponential growth is a testament to the institution's steadfast dedication to fostering academic excellence and nurturing talent. At the heart of JGLS's success lies its commitment to diversity and inclusivity. With faculty members representing 38 countries and regions, and over 70% of leadership positions held by women, the institution embodies a rich tapestry of perspectives and experiences. This diversity enriches the academic discourse and fosters an environment conducive to holistic learning. The achievements of our students both within and beyond the classroom are a source of immense pride. Through internships and moot court competitions, they demonstrate exceptional talent and dedication, reaffirming our belief in their potential to effect positive change in society. Furthermore, JGLS remains steadfast in its pursuit of research excellence and interdisciplinary education. The faculty's prolific contributions to academic journals, with over 210 publications in 2023 alone, underscore the institution's commitment to advancing knowledge and scholarship. This recognition in the QS World University Rankings is more than just a number—it's a testament to our collective spirit, drive, and the impactful contributions of everyone in the JGU community. Together, we're setting new benchmarks and redefining excellence in global education. Onwards and upwards! #JGLS #LegalEducation #Excellence #Diversity #Inclusion #QSWorldRankings
