A shower thought __________________ I'm not one to really like answering the question "what is your teaching methodology?" as much as I like or prefer being asked "what type of teacher are you?" I mean it probably is one in the same but I think I'm better able to understand when asked the latter... I'm the type of teacher who sees all students for who they are. I mean, give me the 'shy child', the 'wild child', the 'hard child', the 'gifted child' etc. and see them become themselves fully and step out of those labels🏷 I believe each child is unique. As overused as that is, but it is true. I could never really know the child in their entirety and that is why parents/guardians are such vital stakeholders. "Know your limits!" It's so easy to compare our children with others especially with our expectations and pressures of this world. But I promise, getting to know the child for who they are is an invaluable tool for future learning and teaching. I digress... The point was, I'm a teacher for all children/students. I will put in the effort to know the child!

Taught a session to new teachers this week on "checks for understanding." I thought I'd start it off by reviewing formative assessment, and to my surprise it was a new concept. Formative assessment is so vitally important in our jobs as educators. I know, we live in a standards based world, but we cannot let formative fall by the wayside. It's an extremely important subsection of a master teacher's toolbox.
