As stated before, the current government policies are causing the devastation to our forests, rural areas, and historic communities. They simply decided to abandon sound fire management practices and reduce firefighting resources. Instead, the government decided to follow the advice of foreign and domestic lobbyists. How much carbon has been produced in the last 8 years because controlled burns and fire breaks were reduced and trees were planted next to critical and historic infrastructure? How much was the natural carbon capture of our forests reduced and how do these numbers compare to the total carbon production in Canada? Unfortunately, after a century of wildfire suppression and recent government policies bushed by environmental lobbyists Banff National Park has grown into an ideal fuel source for fires. I hope a review of the current Jasper fire will expedite some needed changes to protect Banff.
A former Parks Canada planner blames agency leadership for last week’s devastating blaze in Jasper, Alberta, which saw approximately 30% of the town’s infrastructure damaged due to inaction. READ MORE: https://rebelne.ws/4fpDlYP

We see it all too often where a potential customer has to seek extra funding for an excessively larger amount of money for delaying proceedings when they’ve had a water or flood damage emergency arise. Addressing water damage promptly is crucial to prevent further destruction and mitigate potential health risks. Swift action helps limit structural damage, mould growth, and financial burdens, safeguarding both property and well-being. If you have suffered the same consequences don't delay—act swiftly to minimise the impact of water damage and give Perth Restoration Services a Call. The pictures are our own evidence and we have had full permission to use them to save others from falling into the same trap. #WaterDamageRestoration #FloodRestoration #EmergencyRestoration #DamageCleanup #RestorationServices #SeanThomas #RestoreAndRecover #PerthRestorationServices

Thanks for the extraordinary response to the post about my kids getting sick after swimming in the local river. They’re fine now, thank goodness, but reports in this neck of the woods are absolutely rife of wild swimmers and recreational water users getting ill. People have, quite frankly, had enough. The great frustration though, is what can we actually do? I have a genuine feeling that the big water and utility companies are simply too profit driven to respond to any of these concerns in a legitimate way. The attitude appears to be less of a “these are gross acts of negligence, how can we make things right” than “these are gross acts of negligence, we’ve been rumbled, our time will be up soon, so we need to maximise capital gain while we can.” How else can we explain their continued dividend payments, pay rises, and exec bonuses, whilst simultaneously being told that customers bills will rise considerably to “cover infrastructure improvements”. But there’s a very effective movement gathering pace down here, and offering a template for other communities and river systems nationally. Friends of the Dart have established, I believe, the only citizen driven water sampling scheme covering an entire river system from source to mouth. They have scores of volunteers now testing water quality along the River Dart, and reporting spills the moment they happen. It’s a template they want to roll out across the UK. It’s proved highly effective, creating real time accountability, and making it impossible for South West Water to deny, delay, or ignore requested responses to sewage spills. They’ve launched a fundraising page to develop the programme, and look at options for rolling it out further afield. Link is here https://lnkd.in/d332JZ7c The main water utility companies have proved incapable, indifferent, or simply too focused on profit, to deliver their sworn charter to keep our river and coastal systems healthy. This is a great example of local communities taking that responsibility back. #water #sewage #spills #pollution #ecoli #rivers #seas #environment #profit #dividends

When a #landslide happens the threat to valuable #business assets is considerable and the cost of repairs can run into hundreds of millions, but the impact on the people affected can be devastating. California Governor, Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency for Rancho Palos Verdes this week after the risk of severe land #movement disrupted #utility services and prompted an evacuation warning. More than 200 homeowners in the Portuguese Bend and Seaview neighbourhoods had to have their #power shut off over the Labor Day weekend to avoid the possibility of wild fires breaking out. https://lnkd.in/dP8eCRts when public utilities are striving to restore normalcy in affected areas of Hurricane Milton read tge above of one community which has reaped the benefits of transition. shows that empowered individual house holds are the key to energy transitions and achieving sustainability goals Government needs to ensure tax waivers on inputs besides subsidies and grid connectivity to encourage the communities to engage themselves quickly.

The argument that we can't afford #ClimateAction is totally ignoring the cost of not acting. With insurance companies pulling out and the federal government out of funds to help communities recovering from #climatedisasters, there is simply no way state and local governments to adequately prepare for #extremeweather on this scale. https://lnkd.in/eUcBpRWF

Restoring ponds - something that landowners should have been doing, and have been doing, for decades. Many organisations have neglected their ponds to the extent they become sink holes for wildlife. I have often wondered why Natural England District Level Licence does not mention development funds to get this important pond creation and restoration project off the ground - I am guessing that over 3,500 ponds have been created, enhanced or restored. 500,000 ponds have been lost from the English Countryside over the last century. At this rate of creation/restoration NE are on target to overcome those losses in 860years other schemes would take 8,333 years based on published figures. Add to that all the pond creation which has been ongoing for several decades in site based mitigation projects perhaps ponds will recover in numbers in less than 500years? Creating ponds is by far one of the best ways of bringing biodiversity to the wider countryside and lets hope it continues..
Attention landowners in North Lincolnshire! Do you have a #pond in a poor state of repair that needs bringing back to life? We're looking for #ponds to restore for a Natural England initiative. The work would be carried out by us and is fully funded by Natural England, so no effort or cost to the landowner! Register your interest; https://lnkd.in/dwHVdjT #NorthLincs #BBCLincsFarming #LincsConnect #ponds #freestuff #Conservation
