Congratulations to our founding director, Laura Reeve, for getting shortlisted in the 'Inspirational Woman of the Year' category at the 2024 TCS&D Magazine awards event which is taking place on 9th October. To give you a flavour of why we at Genie Insights Ltd think Laura is deserving of this award, here are few excerpts from the entry: Laura has been involved in the #transport & #logistics sector from the day she was born. Her father, Billy Dougan, at the time was a Sales Manager for the local Mecedes Benz Truck dealership. You could have said she was destined to end up running her own business within the sector some 30 years later. A company that has achieved growth and profit every year for the last 8 years and an expected turnover of £1.5m this year. Laura started the company following the birth of her second son with a total investment of £500. Starting a business is an exceptional challenge for anyone, with two small children under 4 and a global pandemic during its early years added extra layers of unforeseen complexity. The business is now in it’s 8th year having started with two clients to there now being seven employees and three divisions within the company with the expectation of needing to take on more staff to keep up with demand. These are just some of the reasons that Laura’s sister (Jan Willis), husband (Matt Reeve) and father (Billy Dougan) all believe she is without a doubt one of the most inspirational people within the industry. You will note that we didn’t mention “Inspirational Woman”, reason being, is that Laura has such a strong and capable personality and drive, it wouldn’t matter who she was up against. Man, woman or beast, Laura will take them on. We just wish them luck, they will need it. ... If there was an industry award for writing the most amount of successful award entries, Laura would win it every year. She has multiple winning entries at the TCS&D, Commercial Motor, Motor Transport, Export & Freight and many other leading industry awards. She has an innate ability to listen to her clients and take what they say and weave it into a story that demonstrates their abilities at the same time as being backed up by fact and figures. Laura is exceptionally proud of her success in award entry writing, as a family we believe it only right that she has at least one written about her. ... Laura can be described as tenacious, determined, persistent, reliable and hard working. She is a perfectionist with the highest level of integrity who insists her business’s reputation is second to none for customer service. ... Though a larger part of my career has been entrepreneurial, my only professional corporate career has been with the Tata Group where I joined the Tata Administrative Service Cadre (#TAS) 35 years back. Our batch joining Tata's, Mr. #RatanTata taking over reigns & PM Shri PVNarasimhaRao's opening of economy happened almost around the same time. I still remember my final interview for TAS at the imposing BombayHouse with the final panel consisting of legendary names. Those were the days of Mr. Modi, Mr. Seth, Mr. Kerkar, Mr. Desai etc. Post interview we were taken to JRD's office to be introduced for a few minutes & thereafter it was only Mr. #RatanTata as Group Chairman for us. #RNT or #MrTata as he was commonly addressed, came across to me as a contrast to those big names. As I moved around in Group companies from IHC to Titan to TataMotors I had a few rare opportunities to meet him. Each time he came across humble & always affable. What intrigued me most was how juxtaposed to this was his penchant for taking big audacious business decisions like Tetley, Corus, Tata Indica,Tata Nano etc. Over the years I realized that these two can indeed co-exist & thrive. While I don't have any personal story, I like many employees of the Group drew value based indirect inspiration from the Group that Mr.Tata led. Threads of inspiration can come from many directions & when woven reveal a tapestry that is your own. Not getting commercially associated with the Sin Industry for example is one unique value we have steadfastly adhered to at Helicon Consulting. I can trace this back to Tatas perhaps. Legends like RNT spin many threads of inspiration for others, especially for socially conscious entrepreneurs & enterprises, to weave their own unique value tapestries. With respects & regards 🙏

Happy Anniversary, Usha! 😊 🎊 It’s been 3 years since I left fulltime employment……………………. for caregiving role. Regrets? None at all. Do I miss corporate life? No.........and........Yes! Eventhough my caregiving responsibility still takes precedence, I have to admit that I still find myself missing the corporate scene. Frankly, I miss being part of a team. I miss the feeling of ‘all for one and one for all’. Even though the road is not always rosy, I do miss being able to make an impact, be it with the employees, management or other stakeholders. I really, really, really miss seeing talents blossom. I do miss business-strategy conversations. Heck, I even miss heated debates with the occasional strangulation urges sprinkled in between…………………… (oops... I better stop here before I start applying for jobs 😅). Having started my career with short stints in production and quality, I find the space of leadership, people and culture my cups of tea. As someone from the side of corporate who had gone through numerous organizations, people & business transformation, I have enough scars on my back and calluses on my hands as my lifelong souvenirs............. which I love. So, who am I now………… professionally? Well, I consider myself as independent consultant focusing on my still-is passion which are leadership and culture. Interestingly, as someone on the other side now, I see things differently. I have views that I didn’t have before. I still feel strongly there’s so much we can do to propel organizations to succeed faster whilst balancing it with the right evolving culture.
