So much of the discourse surrounding value-based care focuses on primary care. And for good reason — primary care significantly impacts overall health outcomes and total cost of care. But the next frontier, according to the Healthcare Transformation Task Force, is specialty care. Their latest report points out that specialty care drives a substantial portion of healthcare spending, making it crucial for achieving VBC goals. We're excited about this new focus. Integrating specialties into VBC models is essential for creating a truly comprehensive, patient-centered healthcare ecosystem. We look forward to supporting and implementing the Task Force's insights — and continuing to push the boundaries of value-based care in both primary and specialty settings. Some of you may know that I spent the majority of my career working with value-based care programs. Since making the switch to life sciences, I’ve realized that the final WHY of new guidance doesn’t always make it back to the folks working in early stages of clinical trials. I hope this article helps close the loop for many on why PROs are increasingly important and scrutinized in clinical trials. There’s more to it than guidance from the FDA, it all ties back to healthcare legislation and the future of care delivery. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the topic! Feedback and discussions in the comments. #clinicaltrials #epro

North Carolina Healthcare Shake-Up Duke, UNC, Atrium, or Risant........ Data From the one and Only Blake Madden https://lnkd.in/g2ZtaaEN Cone Health and Risant Health have entered into a definitive agreement, pending regulatory approval, for Cone Health to join Risant Health. Risant Health, a nonprofit organization created by Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, aims to unite like-minded organizations to expand access to value-based care and improve health outcomes. "Risant Health's vision for the future of healthcare aligns seamlessly with Cone Health’s decades-long commitment to advancing value-based care," stated Risant Health CEO Dr. Jaewon Ryu, JD. "Cone Health's proven success and dedication to providing high-quality care to North Carolina communities make them a perfect fit for Risant Health. Together, we will leverage our expertise and innovation to extend value-based care to more people in the communities we serve." Risant Health, a nonprofit subsidiary of Kaiser Permanente, was launched in spring 2023. Unlike Kaiser Permanente’s core integrated care network, Risant Health aims to collaborate with regional health systems on a technology-driven care platform to enhance outcomes and reduce costs. While member systems will maintain their operations independently, the combined scale is expected to strengthen negotiations with larger commercial payers. Kaiser Permanente has committed up to $5 billion to Risant Health over several years, with plans for "four to five" more health system acquisitions in the next half-decade following the Geisinger deal. Cone Health, significant within North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad metro area, operates four acute care hospitals, a behavioral health facility, a health plan, and an accountable care organization serving nearly 200,000 patients. With $2.9 billion in revenue in 2023 and continued profitability in 2024, Cone Health is facing rising expenses despite recovering patient volumes. ---- Atrium Health Piedmont American Hospital Association

Critics argue that a decade of value-based care (VBC) has failed to improve healthcare cost and quality, citing over 50 VBC program implementations collectively losing billions of dollars compared to traditional fee-for-service benchmarks. Despite challenges, proponents believe VBC is necessary given the unsustainable healthcare spending trajectory, emphasizing the need to prioritize patients, allow doctors to focus on patient care, and embrace the discomfort of change in transitioning away from the fee-for-service model.
