🐛 Ÿnsect, a French producer of insect-based ingredients, has filed a safeguard plan due to delays in securing financing for expansion. Despite ongoing investor discussions, financial pressures forced this action. In 2023, Ÿnsect raised €160 million and shifted focus to more profitable markets such as pet food. However, financial challenges persisted, leading to the safeguard plan implementation. The company maintains optimism as investor discussions continue. ▶️ The safeguard plan aims to restructure the company, keep operations running, save jobs, and settle debts. Founded in 2011 by scientists and environmental activists, Ÿnsect specializes in large-scale vertical farming of yellow mealworms. To date, Ÿnsect has raised $600 million USD from investors including Astanor, BPI France, Crédit Agricole, and Robert Downey Jr.'s Footprint Coalition. The safeguard plan represents a strategic measure to sustain Ÿnsect's operations in sustainable agriculture, with the objective of securing additional investment for industrial expansion. When it's using organic salt-free (not synthetic Haber Bosch soil-killing ammonia and urea) fertilizer, is sustainable, and circular, is my best assessment...
When does "regenerative agriculture" become just " Agriculture? A timely and important question that was raised in the Financing for Regenerative Agriculture report released this week by Pollination and Transformational Investing in Food Systems, with support from The Rockefeller Foundation. The report is a critical resource for the community that is working to unlock capital in the transition to a more regenerative agriculture. Other important questions that are asked in the report include (answers are my own): Why Should Financiers Care About Regenerative Agriculture? (The risks are too high to continue financing the status quo) What's Next? (Let's work together to get those assets off their asses!) We look forward to working together with partners to advance the R&D to build the financial infrastructure needed to support the scaling and adoption of regenerative agriculture. Congratulations to the contributing authors: Alexander Bashian, Arth Mishra, Dave Haynes, David Bennell, Kyle Rudzinski, Rex Raimond, Sara Farley, Steven Lang, Tara Davids, and Tim Crosby and the "brain trust" that supported the report: Candice M.D. Stevens, Seth Shames, Sajeev Mohankumar. With Discover Regenerative now live, we wanted to share more of the nuts and bolts of how we are approaching the diverse world that is regenerative agriculture. With no clear definition and the ongoing debate of what is / isn’t regenerative agriculture, one thing that does seem to be agreed upon, is that regeneration is a journey. Producers are at different stages: some have been leaders in this space for decades, some are taking the first steps and on the right track towards improvement. Working closely with a number of leading regenerative agriculture organisations in Australia, we have developed an approach to providing Assurance that recognises this diversity, rewarding proven achievement whilst also supporting entry and improvement. 👏 Tonight we will discuss the very heart of the matter with some of the brighest hearts and minds of our movement! Can we achieve a differentiated perspective on RegenAg? Is there something like net-negative greenwashing and net-positive greenwashing? Where does greenhushing play in? And how do these co-evolve over time? Where are the traders and retailers? Are worldview shifts happening or are we mainly aiming just for better business for the same old shareholders opting for stock buy backs over real action? Do Pitbull CEOs tear down in days what purpose CEOs and their teams have been attempting to grow over years? Or are we just in some positive disturbance phase to outgrow even more strongly in the next evolutionary succession of RegenAg and humanity? Join us tonight at 19:00 CET to discuss the above and much more! #regenerativeagriculture #agrifood #health #life EARA | European Alliance for Regenerative Agriculture OP2B Materra Investing in Regenerative Agriculture and Food Géraud Dumont de Chassart Anders Lerberg Kopstad Anne van Leeuwen

How can farmers and cultivated meat companies work together? A new report published by the UK’s Royal Agricultural University highlights collaboration opportunities for farms and cultivated meat companies. The report comes as the result of a two-year study in which researchers partnered with nine UK farms to see what cultivated meat could mean for their businesses. While many farmers were cautious and sceptical of cultivated meat, the report revealed that this emerging technology was not considered to be a particularly pressing worry in the context of other urgent challenges facing farmers today. What is more, the researchers found that some farmers were interested in the opportunities created by cultivated meat, such as providing raw materials for the production process or leasing farm buildings to cultivated meat companies. The report demonstrates how building bridges between the cultivated meat sector and agricultural communities can offer benefits to both.
