The key insight from our visit to Desert Springs Middle School is that players appreciate structured training more than anticipated. There were some small hesitations from players when introducing structured training. Often students prefer playing matches back-to-back. This trend isn't just in esports. It's common in traditional sports too, where young athletes are eager to dive into competitive games without a warm-up and skip the challenging drills. Often this leads to a lack of interest as wins and losses start to not matter after many games. What stands out is that students new to esports, who haven't previously engaged in focused training, might initially view the concept of "training" as boring, fearing it might be watching a video for 10 minutes or more and losing valuable playing time. However, once they begin to engage in purposeful drills facilitated by our platform, their outlook transforms. They become highly engaged, quickly registering "quick wins" and noticeably improving their skills. This shift not only boosts their self-confidence but also allows them to measure their skill improvements without it just being measured by winning or losing. Best of all when they start playing their matches at the end of the session - they actively apply what they learnt and can understand why they may be winning or losing. #edutech #esports #education #esportsedu #gaming

The path to a sustainable esports ecosystem starts with increased participation and I believe there is so much more we can do to help young gamers forge a path through the hobby that ultimately leads to them experiencing the unparalleled thrill of competition esports has to offer. The truth is that although esports participation across the globe can sometimes seem impressive, the percentage of gamers that ever participate in a tournament is still fairly low, making it close to impossible for local organizers to create sustainable grassroots operations. Programs that target gamers, eliminate the hurdles and turn them into esports participants are doing it right in my book. We need more of them, and we need them to champion gaming as a great hobby when it is done right. How can we build a sustainable esports ecosystem in a gaming culture where being a "tryhard" is considered an insult? How can we inspire the next generation of esports athletes to push their skills to the limits when being in the top 5% of players (plat/diamond) is considered "being trash"? How can we achieve the goals of the esports industry while leaving it up to chance whether or not passionate young gamers make it through the hurdles, negativity and gatekeeping?
