Fire Attack & TIC Use: Firefighters can enhance their firefighting efforts by using the TIC to assist with guiding the stream. In the following video with the Seek Attack PRO VRS, the crew leader is able to identify convection currents and superheated areas that need to be cooled. Convection currents identify the location, direction, and severity of the fire. Colorization assist with identification of areas that need to be cooled. By implementing this methodology, more water is directed toward the threat thereby preventing unnecessary water application in areas that are not thermally severe. Do you want to improve overall firefighter safety? Let them train in live fire environments so they can better prepared! Limited training equates to limited firefighters. Realistic training equates to competence, which builds confidence in the face of challenges. In addition to live fire training, we recommend that every firefighter be provided with a high-resolution TIC with a fast frame rate and train them in object and hazard identification. By doing so, we can improve overall efficiency and safety on the fireground. Recently, I had a conversation with an event organizer. I pitched my core talk to her, emphasizing that resilience can be taught. We just have to start training it in the fire service. “Yeah, but we already have SO MUCH useless training that we have to go through,” she replied. “I didn’t even retain 10% of that stuff as a public safety officer.” I understand where she’s coming from. Much of what we learn goes in one ear and out the other. Hours of lecture and H.O.T. classes boil down to a handful of habits that we either adopt–or forget–to use on the job. Repetition is the key with this. Not checking off boxes with a mandatory 2-hour workshop once a year. High performers know this and are willing to put in the work to form new habits. Train until you literally cannot forget it. This article from Canadian Firefighter illustrates how powerful this practice can be>>>https://bit.ly/47Uvnno #firefighterwellness #hellyeswellness #firepowerx
