📣 The American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) Annual Operations Survey is out and the results are conclusive: aging infrastructure is top of mind for everyone in healthcare. Raise your hand if this rings true for you: "Without the right team or appropriate resources to support older buildings, maintenance needs build up." 🖐️🖐️ 👩🔧 At last count, there were $390 BILLION in deferred maintenance needs across the sector. What if solving those problems actually paid for the resolution of related issues? InSite has proven this model with hospital customers like Brigham and Women's Hospital and sees it as the best path forward for the 80% of hospital executives concerned about aging infrastructure and their ability to pay for it. Attain has been working with NHS systems, from acute and primary care to mental health and community, to develop strategies for their future estates. This has included interrogating: ❓ What clinical models will it need to deliver? ❓ What do individual geographies require and how are they different? ❓ What role will technology have in shaping the ways of delivering healthcare in future? Learn more about an example of our work in this area where we developed the Estates and Infrastructure Strategy and Plan to enable East Kent HCP partners to work together to deliver their ambitions https://lnkd.in/eqfQSNXd

It is a familiar story in #healthcare and many other settings: the performance of an innovative #process deteriorates over time. Instead of automatically discarding it, organizations should understand the causes. They may then decide to redesign and reimplement the process. #ChangeManagement #innovation

Optimizing health care spaces starts with us, and we can now lean on ASHE’s new Core Competency Framework for health care facilities professionals. It’s a great place to locate and discover resources, and assess and improve your skillset. Take some time during National Health Care Facilities and Engineering Week to explore the Framework: https://lnkd.in/g_ZYy-_7 #CelebrateFE

🏥 Hospital is not the home 🏠 Delighted to announce that our new paper “Hospital Is Not the Home” has been published by JMIR Publications. The paper summarizes our experience implementing remote technology for healthcare in the home for over 34,000 patients, monitored across 43 health systems in the U.S. and U.K. Key Takeaways: - More Natural = More Noise: Hospitals are contrived environments, home monitoring captures patients in their daily lives. Clinicians must learn to interpret and use this new "noise" to build up a picture of a patient at home, to distinguish between normal variation and pathology. - Technological compromises: Devices for the home balance accuracy with acceptability - they need to be easy for patients to use consistently, even if that means sacrificing some precision. Continuous and intermittent monitoring both have a role but must be carefully chosen based on the patient's needs and the program’s goals. Test the tech where it will be deployed, rather than relying on lab validation alone. - Alarm Management: Setting the right alarm thresholds lets patients recover safely with minimal disturbance. Hospital alarms are designed to err on the side of caution

NICE has historically considered health inequalities qualitatively within technology appraisals, but is currently consulting on the use of quantitative approaches in a modular update to their methods (consultation closes on Friday 31st January- link provided in the comments). One key methodology being discussed is distributional cost-effectiveness analysis. For a quick background on the method and key considerations in NICE’s modular update, please see our background piece below! #MapleHealthGroup #DCEA #HealthInequalities #NICE
