Sunsetting an organization has been one of the most challenging yet insightful experiences of my career. When I began with Inspiring Communities, I aimed to build a social innovation approach to municipal and community development, considering the economic landscape. Over time, this evolved into co-founding new initiatives. The key realization is that transitioning organizations into new forms is okay—it signals growth. While Inspiring Communities sunsets, the work continues through four initiatives: New Roots CLT, Future Civics, the CALM Initiative, and Kisitoqsipn Nepisuna’tasik, each carrying forward its legacy uniquely - creating the proof of concept that community-driven social innovation labs should be incubators. If you have any questions about this transition, please get in touch with our Executive Director, Jocelyn Li or myself. "There is no innovation and creativity without failure. Period." ― Brene Brown

“Evaluation is a big missing piece in the whole development life cycle. Evaluation really is just going out and talking to people about where they live and finding out how they experience their environment, their homes, and neighbourhoods.” At our latest workshop, Matthew Morgan, Director at Quality of Life Foundation, shared how using a joined-up approach, combining evidence-based research, consultancy and advocacy, encourages good practices to improve people’s quality of life and create sustainable neighbourhoods. Check out a snapshot of my recent piece in EMOCEAN magazine addressing half measures and opportunities for the surfing world to do better on the environmental stewardship front!
"How the local Tahitian community and surfers banded together to minimize destruction to reef at Teahupoo leading up to the 2024 Olympics—a reminder that for all surfers environmental activism begins with the individual." Read the article, "Tower of Doom", in Emocean Magazine, written by our very own Conner Smith. https://lnkd.in/gH2KxTsJ
